For testing use a region (A) closed to residents. You will also need another region (B) abutting the test region. In region A place your avatar near the boundary with B.

      Click World->Region/Estate->Debug->Restart Region
      Click on the OK message:

      • A floater with a yellow background appears warning of the impending restart, including the name of the region
      • A new alert tone sounds
      • The world shakes briefly (note: this does not occur if you are in mouselook - a known limitation)
      • The number of seconds until the restart counts down in the floater

Click Cancel Restart: The floater closes

Click Restart Region, close the floater, wait 60 seconds for the next region restarting message from the server to arrive:

      • the floater reappears, counting down from 60 seconds
      • the alert tone sounds
      • the quake occurs
Altogether, the warning is given at 120, 60, 45, 30, and 15 seconds

      Cancel the restart

Log a second avatar into A

      Click Restart Region
Move into region B: the floater closes
Move back to A and cancel the restart (note: an empty region restarts immediately, thus the need for a second avatar in A)

Open the Region Debug floater (Ctrl-Shift-`)
Issue the "Restart 2" command: the floater appears and behaves as in the previous tests

With the floater showing log off
      Log back in
      Cancel the restart

      Testing the quake effect:
Initiate a region restart to obtain the countdown floater and observe that the quake effect occurs for each of these different camera mode cases (cancel the restart after observing that the quake effect occurs):
      1) The camera is not focused on anything (this test was performed in previous steps)
      2) Camera focused on the ground, an object, or an avatar
      3) Appearance editing mode

    Description

Sometimes people are afk or, for people with a large screen, their attention might be elsewhere, and they do not see the region restarting message before it disappears. To improve the awareness that the region you are in is about to restart:

      1) Play a sound when a region restart message arrives.

      Suggested sounds are:
      Submarine dive klaxon
      Police car/fire engine siren
      Truck horn

      2) Create a floater with a countdown timer showing how many seconds are left until the restart occurs.

The floater will automatically close if:
2a) You leave the region that is restarting or
      2b) The restart is canceled

If you close the floater it will reappear when the next "about to restart" message is received. Currently these messages are sent at
      2 minutes
      60 seconds
      45 seconds
      30 seconds
      15 seconds

      3) When a region restarting message from the server arrives cause a quake effect by moving the camera around.
