[BUG-9957] Even more frequent errors when texturing a linkset since the MAINT-4897 fix - "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again." #17385
Labels
The "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again" bug was first reported in BUG-8518.
This bug is listed as fixed on the current release viewer: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.8.3.304115
MAINT-4897 Frequent error when texturing a linkset - "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again."
The original repro given on BUG-8518 no longer reproduces the bug on current release.
However the bug is not fixed - it's even worse and much easier to reproduce after the MAINT-4897 fix.
The cause of the bug is https://bitbucket.org/lindenlab/viewer-release/commits/69e5826da9e3961ba329c1c97cdbca0dbe27b7d4
MAINT-2245 FIXED Object's content doesn't display inside "Buy" dialog when prim is set for sale.
Backing out this changeset totally fixes this bug.
Steps to Reproduce
The "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again" bug will now reproduce when attempting to texture any linkset with 2 or more prims, where the prims have any content in their inventory - a script or an animation, notecard, object etc.
Note that the permissions on the object contents does not matter.
Rez a default box and add a default New Script to its contents.
Shift copy this box a few times and link all the boxes.
I suggest making a 10 or more prim linkset to show how annoying this bug is when you have multiple warnings popping up.
Edit the linkset -> Texture tab -> Click the texture thumbnail
Choose any texture in the texture picker (full perm textures will reproduce this bug).
Observed Behaviour
As soon as you select a texture in the texture picker, you will see the following modal warning
Click OK on this modal.
For a 10 prim linkset where each prim contains 1 script, you will get ~ 8 modal warnings you need to dismiss.
See attached This bug makes me cry.gif
After dismissing all these modals, you can carry on retexturing the linkset without further errors until you shift copy the linkset or pick the linkset up and rerez it.
Every single attempt to texture a new copy of the linkset will produce the multiple errors again.
Shift copy the linkset and discard the original.
Attempt to add a new texture to the new copy of the linkset and observe the multiple modals pop up again.
After dismissing all the modals, add another new texture to the linkset and observe you see no errors.
Take this "fixed" linkset into inventory and rerez it.
Add a new texture to the linkset.
Observe multiple modals pop up again.
Shift copy or rerez a fresh copy of the linkset.
This time, attempt to retexture a single face on the linkset by dragging & dropping a texture directly from inventory onto the face of one of the prims.
Observe you still get the "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again" modal popping up.
See attached Can't even DaD without an error.gif
Expected Behaviour
Never, ever to see the "Unable to add texture. Please wait a few seconds and try again" modal.
Other Information
This is how many modals I have to dismiss retexturing a large build :(
