Steps to Reproduce

Basically nothing more than to have set up the system from scratch, same OS, same hardware and also identical graphics drivers, as before, but at one view, not a rigged mesh more.
So in other words I have no idea what I should have done .... the last few years it went without any complaints. lol

Actual Behavior

Since yesterday I put the system from scratch for exchange of a HD, I now see no more rigged mesh.
Ungerigged mesh can be seen and mesh objects in the landscape also, just on the body rigged mesh not, unless I disable the base shader or hardware skinning. But THIS is NOT solution for me, because then neither adv. lightning are still shadows activated, and I am builder and need both functions urgent and of course clothes on my body and that of the other.

But and it is definitely there, because after login it is very briefly seen, then it disappears for me.

Expected Behavior

ja was wohl lol .... Kleidung auf meinem Körper
yes lol .... well what clothes on my body

Heya Findbhair,

We have had reports about this same problem coming into Firestorm support over the last week - all those affected are AMD systems using the new driver version 8.17.0010.1315
Symptoms are being unable to see rigged mesh - unrigged mesh will render normally.
Also, users are reporting mesh is flashing with large vertex vomit spikes shooting out of it.
Disabling VBO fixes the vertex vomit and disabling hardware skinning fixes the invisible rigged mesh.

The 8.17.0010.1315 driver version appears to be the AMD Catalyst™ 14.9.2 Beta - http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-9-2BetaWINReleaseNotes.aspx

Can you confirm that you are indeed using the Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta driver?
If you roll back to the 14.9 release Catalyst version (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064) does this fix the problem?

Muß ich da was beachten?

Another me too. The AMD 14.9.2 beta driver will not display rigged mesh (any rigged mesh at all, doesn't matter if it's fitted etc.) unless hardware skinning is OFF. These are Radeon 77xx cards.

Translation
All right, Whirly, I make a down grade away from the BETA driver for stable version erm ..... how does that work?
I must note here what?

Hmm you should be able to just download the 14.9 Catalyst from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064 and run the installer.

For best results, uninstall the beta driver from the Windows control panel, under add/remove software (choose the option to express uninstall ALL AMD software) and reboot, before reinstalling the older, working release.

:)) DANKE!

meine Vorgehensweise war (Win 7 x64 Prof):

  • einloggen in Admin-ACC des Rechners

  • aufrufen des "AMD Catalyst Install Manager" im Modus "Ändern" per Windows-Systemsteuerung

  • Deinstallation aller Grafiktreiber-Komponeten per (Wichtig ->) "Benutzerdefinierter"-Deinstallations-Routine

    Eure Fin :))

PS: "choose the option to express uninstall ALL AMD software" IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!![ Because it will remove ALL AMD-drivers from your system. And ALL means all, under certain circumstances your chipset- (motherboard), audio-, LAN- or each other not involved AMD-driver too]( Because it will remove ALL AMD-drivers from your system. Thanks for the report, Findbhair. I can reproduce this; there appears to be a regression in the Catalyst 14.9.2 beta driver.

Using the default default catalyst WHQL driver (14.301.1001.0, from 2014-09-15). Full Env is :

I see that my that my rigged meshes simply don't render, though non-rigged meshes (either attached or unattached) are still looking ok. The attached maestro_catalyst_beta_hwskin_enabled.png shows this case.

When I disable hardware skinning, my rigged mesh attachments instantly render ok. However, this also has the effect of disabling all normal and specular map effects (my jacket no longer sparkles!). The attached maestro_catalyst_beta_hwskin_disabled.png shows this.

I have this issue on my laptop with GeForce 720M - I have absolutely no AMD drivers installed there - and also on my desktop PC with AMD Radeon HD 7850.
This also makes my avatar's mesh "mane" invisible, of which I am pretty certain that it's not rigged, but just simple mesh.
I somehow 'fixed' it on my laptop, by switching parts of my outfit forth and back, but I can't tell what exactly it was to make my attachments appear again.
But the issue remains on my desktop PC even after a clean install.

I take it back, it looks like my mane is also rigged mesh.
Still I can't explain why I had a similar issue on my laptop (which doesn't have any AMD GPU), maybe I copy-pasted an already borked cache folder, I don't remember.
ETA: rolling back the driver fixed this for me on my PC.

Crishan Graves commented at 2014-10-30T17:37:52Z, updated at 2014-11-11T11:15:40Z

I can confirm this bug, it lies entirely with AMD's latest OpenGL Library, version 6.14.10.13085,
used in the Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta-driver.
I had this happen with the official viewer, with Henri Beauchamp's Cool VL Viewer and with
Niran's Black Dragon viewer.

With OpenGL version 6.14.10.13084 used in Catalyst 14.9 WHQL (and also used in Catalyst 14.9.1 Beta),
after having logged into Second Life, my avatar looked like this:
http://www.pic-upload.de/view-25064878/Snapshot_OGL-6.14.10.13084.png.html

with OpenGL version 6.14.10.13085 used in Catalyst 14.9.2 BETA, the avatar is displayed like this:
http://www.pic-upload.de/view-25064886/Snapshot_OGL-6.14.10.13085.png.html

There is a way to fix this without reinstalling your OS:
Copy the OpenGL-files from Catalyst 14.9 WHQL into the application's directory.
Those files are:
atig6txx.dll, atigktxx.dll, atio6axx.dll, atioglxx.dll

These files are usually located in a directory structure such as this:
Catalyst 14.9 WHQL\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF\B176041
where the files are still named

Copy these to a directory of your choice and unpack them, using
7-zip, for example. After that, copy
atig6txx.dll, atigktxx.dll, atio6axx.dll, atioglxx.dll
into your viewer's directory. The viewer will then use these .dlls
instead of the 14.9.2 Beta's.

Of course, you could also just uninstall the Catalyst 14.9.2 Beta package
and use Catalyst 14.9 WHQL.

A BIG REMINDER, though:
If all of you who have this happening to you could also please fill out a bug report
at AMD's site, it would be splendid:
http://www.amd.com/betareport
I myself have already done so, but apparantly, AMD devote their resources at fixing
errors in their drivers according to the amount of bug-reports they get...
So, the more bug reports for this error in their OpenGL driver, the swifter they will
react, hopefully.

Edit (11th of November 2014):
Have now tried with the latest Beta driver, Catalyst 14.11.1 Beta, with OpenGL driver
version 6.14.10.13092:
This bug still persists.
I hope that LindenLabs will contact AMD.

Adding another to the pile. There is a beta Catalyst download in circulation intended for Alienware machines, labeled as 14.502.1002 or "15.x". It can install on some non-Dell systems too, so hardware enthusiasts have been playing with it. This driver set contains the same bugs. SL viewers will report it as OpenGL Version 4.2.13285

Over in Singularity land they found a tweak to make the shaders work on these AMD drivers. singularity-viewer/SingularityViewer@af41a65

For me, applying the same tweak to LL and Firestorm viewers solves the invisible mesh problem too.

It's mysterious that this change would make a difference, but it does.

@ObviousAltIsObvious

Are you seeing any broken normals on rigged mesh when using the Singularity tweak?
There's been a few reports in the Singu group reporting this - the broken normals will cause the rigged mesh to flicker badly & look blotchy: http://i.imgur.com/9eD02ou.png

So far, can't find a way to reproduce that either on Singularity, or on other viewers with comparable shader tweaks.

However, broken normals, splotchy appearance and flickering are things I expect to see when hardware skinning is left disabled.

(Singularity in particular does have some lighting problems that can show up as visible seams on mesh, but that's independent of driver versions.)

A new Catalyst is due for next week on Windows. The corresponding fglrx package has already been dropped to the Ubuntu vivid beta. The hardware skinning bug persists. (AMD OpenGL drivers on the two platforms have a history of bug-for-bug compatibility, I'm hoping that this will be a little behind anyway, given the results.)
