[BUG-7298] Answers Forum loses posts #15028

Rolig Loon commented at 2014-09-17T20:07:57Z I can confirm that I have had the same thing happen to me several times, starting (as I recall) in late spring 2014. In each case, I have posted a response to a user question and then found that my response was missing later. I suspected at first that the posts were being removed by moderators, but I never received a notice from them (and, in fact, have never had a post removed by a moderator, in 7 years). |
ObviousAltIsObvious commented at 2014-09-17T21:23:24Z There is apparently a spam filter gone awry. If I include the following link in a community.secondlife.com forum post, it will initially appear, then be silently deleted within seconds. Rollig and Lindal, did you include hyperlinks or other unusual text in your deleted posts? If possible, it could be help to reproduce the exact text of your posts in comments here. |
Rolig Loon commented at 2014-09-17T21:50:49Z I almost always include links in my posts, so I wouldn't consider that unusual. Unfortunately, I have not made a note of the specific instances, and I have probably posted close to 2000 responses since I first noticed it happening, so it would be difficult to go back now and reconstruct. Now that Lindal has thought to create a BUG JIRA, I'll remember to save the information the next time it happens. |
Lindal Kidd commented at 2014-09-17T22:53:45Z Two of my attempted posts did have links, and one of them was to an SLuniverse thread! However, the third attempt did not have links in it. |
Madelaine McMasters commented at 2014-09-17T23:24:33Z I've had several posts vanish in the same fashion, with repeated attempts. I also often include links, and can't recall the exact circumstances of each failure. I think I first encountered this around the same time as Rolig. |
Kyle Linden commented at 2014-10-02T23:35:18Z Hello Lindal, (And anyone else that this has happened too really.) Will you please provide some examples of posts that were removed. I see there is some commonality with posting links, but complete examples of text would be helpful. Thanks! |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-10-17T12:12:41Z Example post is given in the images attached to BUG-7546 |

Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-11-09T12:43:32Z I just had a post fail to post on this thread http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Second-Life-Tech/Profiles-not-showing-properly/m-p/2861052 Post text was: You definitely updated to the latest LL viewer from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ ?
There is some discussion about this problem on this thread too www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/alternative-sl-clients/101338-web-profiles-broken.html HTML was: <p>You definitely updated to the latest LL viewer from <a title="https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/" href="https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/" target="_blank"> https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/</a> ?</p>

Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-11-09T12:53:08Z, updated at 2014-11-09T12:55:41Z Hmm both post attempts came to my email too as if the post was successful, as I had a subscription to that thread - weird. |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2015-08-31T06:36:17Z The forum just deleted a post I made - maybe too many links? My post poofed from this thread: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Second-Life-Tech/Mesh-homes-people-dont-fully-load-graphics-card-help/m-p/2962268#M3868 This was my rejected post: http://prntscr.com/8av866 Rejected post text: The problem with invisible rigged mesh unless hardware skinning was disabled is fixed with the 15.7.1 Catalyst driver. If you were having this problem then only worn rigged mesh would be invisible, not parts of your mesh house for example.
It sounds like you are suffering from poor mesh loading in general, which could be caused by many things - viewer settings, sick region, connection/network issues, local CDN problems, antivirus software taking a dislike to Pipelining etc.
First things I would do to try & narrow the problem down:
Do you have the problem on all regions? If you only see invisible/slow loading mesh on one region then this region may have caps fail or general sluggish performance & need a restart. A lot of regions are in a bad way at the moment because there has been no main channel roll for weeks (26 days now...).
Do you only have the problem at busy mesh saturated events like Uber? It isn't unusual for mesh to load pretty slowly in busy places where lots of avatars are wearing mesh. There have been improvements lately to help this (like Pipelining) but it can still be a problem.
Is it only mesh that is invisible or loading slowly or are normal prims/sculpties also affected? There are some popular settings tweaks doing the rounds which "help" protect against graphics crashers. They don't, they just cause a lot of normal objects to never load. If you have changed any of these settings in your viewer, reset them all to default: https://thegreenlanterns.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/debug-settings-to-make-graphics-crashers-obsolete/
When you see an invisible floor or wall etc, if you right click where it should be or zoom your camera view out and back, does the missing object then rez? Do you see rigged mesh avatars as flat triangles? If so then you are probably seeing BUG-8806 &/or BUG-7239. LL have a fix pending upstream for both those problems that seems to nail that bug finally.
If you are in the habbit of changing your active group tag quickly after landing on a new region, then don't. This will cause many objects (not just mesh) to fail to load - see BUG-6299
Do you have the same problem on other viewers? Test the LL viewer from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ & see if you suffer the same issue. If you only have this problem on Firestorm, then best thing to do is file a Firestorm JIRA issue.
Are you connecting to SL over a cellular network or a mifi? Some cellular connections cause problems with invisible mesh &/or corrupted textures.
Are you seeing any texture corruption (rainbow coloured textures) or exploding mesh or slow loading/grey avatar textures or is slow loading/invisible mesh the only problem? Rejected post HTML: <p>The problem with invisible rigged mesh unless hardware skinning was disabled is fixed with the 15.7.1 Catalyst driver. Whirly Fizzle commented at 2016-03-13T08:06:42Z Still happening... whine... My reply to https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Second-Life-Rainbow-graphics/td-p/3013438 got instantly deleted and ended up in my rejected items list. Reply text: Your symptoms - corrupted rainbow textures & the viewer often swiftly crashing soon after login, plus the fact you only have this problem on up to date V3 based viewer but not on Singularity (which doesn't use Pipelining) strongly suggest the problem is caused by software installed on your system (usually Fireall or antivirus) that is incompatible with HttpPipelining.
The most widely used antivirus software which has been causing this problem recently is Webroot.
I've seen a couple of new cases in the last 2 days from Iobit Advanced system care users too.
For the full list of antivirus/Firewall software known to have this bug, see the comments on BUG-8631
What antivirus & Firewall software are you currently using?
To work around this problem for now, you can disable Pipelining in the viewer.
Do the following steps from the login screen so you don't crash.
At the login screen, use CTRL+ALT+D to activate the Advanced.Debug menu in the top menu bar (name depends on viewer).
Advanced (or Debug) -> Show debug settings -> HttpPipelining -> Set this to FALSE.
You must then clear your cache once to remove the corrupted textures which fetched over Pipelining or you will still see those as rainbow.
Still from the login screen, clear cache via viewer Preferences.
On Firestorm: Viewer -> Preferences -> network & Files -> Directories -> "Clear Cache" button -> Apply -> OK.
On LL viewer: Me -> Preferences -> Advanced -> "Clear cache" -> OK.
Then restart the viewer & login.
Does that fix the problem?
Note that you may well have slower mesh & texture fetch with HttpPipelining disabled.
If you change your problem antivirus/Firewall software in future (or they fix the bug), remember to set HttpPipelining back to TRUE again in debug settings. Steps to Reproduce
Submitting a response to a question in the SL Answers Forum
Actual Behavior
THREE times today I posted an answer to this question: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Avatar/Ideal-body-measurements-for-a-male-model-in-second-life/qaq-p/2825326
In each case, the interface said it was successful. I could "click here to go to your post" and read it.
But when I next opened the thread, my answer was NOT there. However, it did not happen with another question I posted an answer to, so it's not ALL threads, just SOME threads.
Other frequent posters to Answers have reported seeing this problem.
Expected Behavior
I expected to see my post in the thread I'd posted it to.
