Steps to Reproduce

This problem has persisted for about six weeks no. The ticket did not solve the problem.

Actual Behavior

I have stored full permission sounds in notecards for many years. Now I am not able to get many of them back out. I filed a ticket and was told the sounds had been lost from the database, but I have some of them on my land and they play just fine (and play also from the notecard).

When I select copy from inventory, many of them just don't.

Expected Behavior

I've tried to extract sounds on my sims Whimsy and Whimsy Kaboom and on the low-lag sim Welsh. Sounds do not appear in inventory.

Other information

Scripts, objects, and other categories come out of notecards just fine.

Hi Cheyenne,

This viewer is not supported by Linden Lab. For support with third party viewers, please contact that viewer's developers. If you can reproduce this problem on an official Second Life Viewer, please update this issue with information on the supported viewer version accordingly.

Also, can you please provide steps to recreate this issue? Are the audio files you're using local to your machine, or are they sounds that come with the viewer?

Heya Cheyenne,

I'm Firestorm support and QA.
Please can you pass me a copy of your repro notecard inworld and I will also test this on Firestorm viewer.

Thanks!

I created a new notecard and added some full perm sounds to it and saved the notecard and passed a copy of this notecard to my alt. I repeated creating this notecard on both Firestorm 4.6.5 and the current default release of the official viewer.
Both my alt and myself are able to copy the sounds to inventory from the notecard.

I am wondering if this is a problem with a particular notecard/s you use to store sounds.
Do these notecards have a lot of sounds stored on them? Like 100+ sounds?

There is an old problem with old notecards created on V1 based viewers (including old official 1.23) - some of these old notecards that contain a very large number of full perm assets, for example sounds or landmarks do not work properly when attempting to copy the stored assets back to inventory. A lot of the assets will fail to copy over.
Did you create these notecards causing you problems a very long time ago on an old V1 based viewer (for example 1.23 official or Phoenix)?
Do the problem notecards contain a very large number of sounds?

The problem does not seem to be viewer-dependent. Sounds still will not come out of the notecard when I use official Linden viewer.

Whirly, I dropped a copy of the notecard to you.

It was created on 3 March, 2013, so not an old one

I reproduced this problem with Cheyenne's notecard on Second Life 3.7.12 (291824) Jul 9 2014 13:58:09 (Second Life Release) and on Firestorm and on the old SL 1.23.
The problem appears to be this notecard and not the sound assets in it.

About 80% of the sounds on this NC will not copy to inventory.

Marissa & Alexa, I passed you a copy of this NC named "BUG-6747 repro - Full Perm Sounds".
It would be interesting to know what is wrong with it.

When clicking on a sound on this NC and choosing "Copy to inventory", one of 3 things will happen:

  • The sound will be added to the Sounds folder of inventory (rare)

  • Nothing

  • You will get a notification in the viewer saying "Failed to create requested inventory" and the sound will not copy to inventory. (But note that none of those sound assets are actually missing from the database as support said, they will play the sound from within the NC and also, I managed to get all the assets into my inventory with some jiggery pokery and the sound assets are all fine and play from within inventory).

Note that making a copy of the NC doesnt fix the problem, nor does making and edit to the NC and saving it.

To fix it was quite faffy - I removed all the line breaks and spaces without resaving the NC, which allowed me to get about 60% of the sounds copied into my inventory.
For the sounds still being stubborn I made a small edit to the NC and saved it then clicked the sound while the NC was in its "saving state" (black background) - this worked to get the sound into inventory.

Recreating a new NC with all these sounds added to from inventory does not reproduce the same problem.

Viewer logs show that moving the sound asset to inventory was a success, even when it failed or the viewer gave the "Failed to create requested inventory" notification.

When a sound failed to copy to inventory:

2014-07-19T04:47:21Z WARNING: LLToastAlertPanel::LLToastAlertPanel: Alert: Copy this item to your inventory?
    2014-07-19T04:47:23Z INFO: LLSDMessage::EventResponder::httpSuccess: 'CopyInventoryFromNotecard' to '{ 216.82.35.244:13001 mOriginGlobal = { 332544, 306176, 0 }
     mName         = Testylvania Sandbox
    }' succeeded

I'm able to reproduce Whilry's results. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I went back and tried a few different viewers (3.7.3.287491 and 3.5.3.276452) but the issue happened there as well. There must be something wrong with the notecard itself.

Please message me and I will share the notecard with you.
