Steps to Reproduce

I suspect that it might have been opening a secondary inventory window that triggered this, but since I'm stuck with it, I cannot test if that was the key. Otherwise nothing special.

Actual Behavior

My Received Items Folder vanished. The whole button-bar of it. When I purchased a demo from the Marketplace to force it to appear, the MP purchases are not there, instead it has my whole inventory under it, like a duplicate, just in messed up order.

Expected Behavior

Obviously expecting to be able to shop from the Marketplace and the received items folder to work as intended.

Other information

I use the latest official SL viewer. I have tried clearing the cache, and when that didn't help, I re-downloaded the latest viewer, uninstalled my SL, deleted manually the user info from AppData/Roaming/SecondLife, then re-installed the viewer, and the problem is still there.

Heya Sonya,

Did you already contact Linden Lab support directly about this problem?
It's probable that they will be able to fix this for you by running the inventory repair scripts on your account.
You can contact support directly from https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/

When this kind of inventory corruption happens, the Lindens are always interested in what caused it to occur.
Have you used any third party viewers at all recently and if so, which ones?
Were you logged in on the official Linden lab viewer when this problem started?

Note for Lindens: The problem with the Received Items button suddenly disappearing from the inventory has been seen before. Usually a resize of inventory floater or a relog will fix the missing button. This does not happen very often but it has been occuring ever since the Recived Items feature was added.
I have never seen a case yet where a users whole inventory has been mirrored into the received items folder though.

If you purchase an item off the marketplace that uses direct delivery, once it has been delivered, if you look in your Recent Items tab of inventory, does the purchase show here?

Hey Whirly,

I haven't yet contacted Linden Lab support, but will do that as soon as I have a moment.

I haven't used any third party viewers for... about a year or so, and don't have any installed. I was on the official SL viewer when the problem started.

And yes, when I look at recent tab, it lists Received Items folder and the demo in it, and places them in one of my custom folders, but when I look for them in there, can't see them.

I went to look at the https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ but there was absolutely nothing even remotely fitting in the categories, seems they take support tickets only for things like accounts being compromised, Marketplace or land issues and so forth. There was no way to file a ticket about inventory issues, or even just general SLife issues.

Yeah the inventory problem options only show up if you have a premium account.
A Linden will see this issue on Monday and advise you what to do Sonya.

Hey Alexa,

Yes. I re-downloaded the latest viewer, uninstalled my SL, deleted manually the user info from AppData/Roaming/SecondLife, then re-installed the viewer, and the problem is still there.

I had a crazy thought about this: as I mentioned earlier, I'm suspecting that the trigger might have been opening another inventory window. Seeing the other reported bugs, the new inventory windows don't have the received items button. What if for some reason I'm now stuck with the 'new' inventory window that I created, and the original one simply won't load, instead using the 'new' one without the received items capability?

Hmmm.... If you open 2 inventory windows using CTRL+I (opens primary window) and CTRL+SHIFT+I (opens secondary window), do neither have the Received items bottom folder?

I was also wondering if the glitch that happened caused an extra Received Items folder to be created. I do not know of any way to tell this on the official viewer though, there does not seem to be a way to force the Received Items folder to appear as a normal system folder in inventory - apart from when a new item is added to Received Items, the folder will show in the Recent tab of inventory.
If you use the search bar in inventory to search for Received Items do you get any results? Does a folder show up?

On Firestorm you can choose to display the Received Items folder as a normal system folder in inventory instead of the large folder at the bottom of inventory so if you did happen to have more then one Received Items folder or had the Received items folder in the wrong place, for example in trash or as a subfolder, that would show in search results.
Im hesitant to recommend you try this though, incase changing that option of Firestorm causes some more damage, because something is broken really badly here.

Oh, this may work.
On the official viewer, go to Recent Items tab of inventory.
Click the Gear menu -> Show filters -> Tick "Always show folders".
This should display your full inventory in Recent items, plus show the Received items folder as a normal system folder.
Can you see an extra Received Items folder in there and does the Received Items folder show in its correct place?

Hey Whirly,

neither ctrl + I nor ctrl + shift + I inventory windows have received items bar-button or folder space.

Doing a search on 'received items' does not bring anything up.

I do not use Firestorm, this is the official viewer. I don't have any third party viewers installed.

In the recent items tab when it's filtered to show folders it does not show a received items folder, unless it's hidden in one of the sub-folders.

Hi Sonya,

It was me hijacking your account just then. I'm also seeing a lack of any Received section for your account. I also noticed that for having a rather small inventory it was taking unusually long for it to load. Has this always been the case or did this recently begin?

Hey Alexa,

I usually try to keep my inventory below 20k, but it's got a bit over that lately. I've noticed that it does sort of... trying to load when there shouldn't be anything more to load anymore, the number is current, all is there, but it still keeps on working.

And yah, unless I force the Received Items section to appear by buying a demo, it's not there. When it is forced into being (the section), then it shows the duplicated normal inventory there instead of what there should be. If I don't buy anything from MP to force the section into being, it's gone by the time I re-log.

I had exactly the same problem and just solved it :) Apparently "Received items" folder is not visible in "My inventory" tab, but it is visible in "Recent" tab. As I was moving folders I must have moved it into another folder I created (so it was NOT in the root directory). To solve the problem I bought something from the marketplace and "Received items" appeared in "Recent" tab because it contained a recently bought item. I moved it to inventory root directory and now everything works fine.

Also, the problem with inventory trying to load even when it is already loaded might be somehow connected to "Received items" folder in wrong place - because I noticed similar behaviour in my inventory while having this problem. Perhaps some kind of infinite loop is created when you have inventory in another folder, and inside there's a folder with another inventory etc. ;)

EDIT
OK, I take that back, the continuous load is still happening.

Oh Goodness, yes, this is possible!
It should not be possible to move the Received Items folder, which is a system folder, inside another folder.

I just reproduced this on Second Life 3.7.6 (289164) Apr 16 2014 15:15:22 (Second Life Release) - I now have my Received items folder within my system Notecards folder.

It is also possible to move your Received Items folder inside Trash in the Recent items tab and then empty your trash. I just broke my alt :D

Hmm it appears that Sonya's issue is different however.
I can delete my Received items folder and purge Trash, but as soon as I make a direct delivery purchase, my Received Items folder recreates itself at the bottom of my inventory and it is in the correct place within my normal inventory.
If I move my Received Items folder into a subfolder in Recent Items tab and relog, my large Received items folder is missing at the bottom of my inventory but again, as soon as I make a direct delivery purchase, the large folder at bottom of inventory is recreated andI can then access Received Items within the Recent tab and easily move it back into the My Inventory main folder.

Repro

  • Make a direct delivery purchase, or rez something from Received items and take a copy back to inventory - this makes the Received items folder visible in Recent tab of inventory.

  • Force another system folder to appear in Recent tab by creating a new body part for example.

  • In Recent items tab, drag the Received Items folder into the Body Parts folder.

  • Relog

  • Open inventory - there is no large Received Items folder at the bottom of Inventory.

  • Make another direct delivery purchase.

  • As soon as the purchase arrives, the large Received items folder reappears at the bottom of inventory, The Received items folder is the visible within the Body Parts folder in Recent Items tab and you can move it back into its correct place inside My Inventory.

  • From within Recent Items tab, drag Received Items folder into trash and purge Trash.

  • Relog.

  • Observe that the Received Items folder at bottom of inventory has disappeared.

  • Make a direct delivery purchase.

  • Observe that as soon as the purchase arrives, the Received items folder is created at bottom of inventory and Received Items folder shows in the correct place within Recent Items tab.

Yay! <3

The repro to get the behaviour you had is:

  • Login and make a DD purchase so that received items shows in recent tab.
  • Make sure any other folder is visible in Recent items - can be system folder or normal (user created) folder.
  • Open secondary inventory window and go to Recent items.
  • Move Received items folder inside another folder within Recent items within the secondary inventory window.
  • Relog
  • You will now have no big Received items folder showing in inventory.
  • Make a DD purchase.
  • Received items folder will then appear at bottom of inventory and it will contain your full inventory and Library folders. Moving the Received items folder within the secondary inventory window appears to be the key to getting your full inventory within Received items.
  • To Fix - Once the last DD purchase has been made, this forces received items folder to show in Recent items - if it doesn't show, in recent tab, go to filters and set back an hour or so or reset filters or choose always show folders. Then drag received items folder back into its correct place within the My Inventory window and relog.

Just for further information, it did it again: the whole section vanished. This time I had not opened secondary inventory windows at all, and don't know what might have triggered it. The fix, however, stayed the same. I bought a demo from the Marketplace, which forced the section to appear (with the whole inventory in it, like before). Then I grabbed the 'received items' folder in the recent tab, dragged it to 'my inventory' and relogged. Immediate fix!

I don't know what all can possibly cause this, but at least the fix works. <3

Maybe it has to do with the fact that the Received Items folder is NOT a protected folder anymore and could be moved around the inventory freely - see http://hg.secondlife.com/viewer-release/commits/92176a694e210263f14128d2c0338948c96e6d12
