[BUG-5874] Received Items Folder Vanished -- when forced to appear, repeats normal inventory instead of MP purchases #13784

Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-04-27T18:31:51Z Heya Sonya, Did you already contact Linden Lab support directly about this problem? When this kind of inventory corruption happens, the Lindens are always interested in what caused it to occur. Note for Lindens: The problem with the Received Items button suddenly disappearing from the inventory has been seen before. Usually a resize of inventory floater or a relog will fix the missing button. This does not happen very often but it has been occuring ever since the Recived Items feature was added. |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-04-27T18:36:33Z If you purchase an item off the marketplace that uses direct delivery, once it has been delivered, if you look in your Recent Items tab of inventory, does the purchase show here? |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-27T21:27:22Z Hey Whirly, I haven't yet contacted Linden Lab support, but will do that as soon as I have a moment. I haven't used any third party viewers for... about a year or so, and don't have any installed. I was on the official SL viewer when the problem started. And yes, when I look at recent tab, it lists Received Items folder and the demo in it, and places them in one of my custom folders, but when I look for them in there, can't see them. |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-28T01:05:57Z I went to look at the https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ but there was absolutely nothing even remotely fitting in the categories, seems they take support tickets only for things like accounts being compromised, Marketplace or land issues and so forth. There was no way to file a ticket about inventory issues, or even just general SLife issues. |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-04-28T01:25:34Z Yeah the inventory problem options only show up if you have a premium account. |
Alexa Linden commented at 2014-04-28T16:08:22Z Have you tried deleting Second Life, all of your settings and doing a clean reinstall? |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-28T17:37:16Z Hey Alexa, Yes. I re-downloaded the latest viewer, uninstalled my SL, deleted manually the user info from AppData/Roaming/SecondLife, then re-installed the viewer, and the problem is still there. |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-29T15:06:30Z I had a crazy thought about this: as I mentioned earlier, I'm suspecting that the trigger might have been opening another inventory window. Seeing the other reported bugs, the new inventory windows don't have the received items button. What if for some reason I'm now stuck with the 'new' inventory window that I created, and the original one simply won't load, instead using the 'new' one without the received items capability? |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-04-29T16:05:52Z Hmmm.... If you open 2 inventory windows using CTRL+I (opens primary window) and CTRL+SHIFT+I (opens secondary window), do neither have the Received items bottom folder? I was also wondering if the glitch that happened caused an extra Received Items folder to be created. I do not know of any way to tell this on the official viewer though, there does not seem to be a way to force the Received Items folder to appear as a normal system folder in inventory - apart from when a new item is added to Received Items, the folder will show in the Recent tab of inventory. On Firestorm you can choose to display the Received Items folder as a normal system folder in inventory instead of the large folder at the bottom of inventory so if you did happen to have more then one Received Items folder or had the Received items folder in the wrong place, for example in trash or as a subfolder, that would show in search results. |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-04-29T16:17:15Z Oh, this may work. |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-29T18:40:55Z Hey Whirly, neither ctrl + I nor ctrl + shift + I inventory windows have received items bar-button or folder space. Doing a search on 'received items' does not bring anything up. I do not use Firestorm, this is the official viewer. I don't have any third party viewers installed. In the recent items tab when it's filtered to show folders it does not show a received items folder, unless it's hidden in one of the sub-folders. |
Alexa Linden commented at 2014-04-29T20:33:29Z Hi Sonya, It was me hijacking your account just then. I'm also seeing a lack of any Received section for your account. I also noticed that for having a rather small inventory it was taking unusually long for it to load. Has this always been the case or did this recently begin? |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-04-29T20:48:04Z Hey Alexa, I usually try to keep my inventory below 20k, but it's got a bit over that lately. I've noticed that it does sort of... trying to load when there shouldn't be anything more to load anymore, the number is current, all is there, but it still keeps on working. And yah, unless I force the Received Items section to appear by buying a demo, it's not there. When it |
Ayumi Cassini commented at 2014-05-01T11:08:48Z I had exactly the same problem and just solved it :) Apparently "Received items" folder is not visible in "My inventory" tab, but it is visible in "Recent" tab. As I was moving folders I must have moved it into another folder I created (so it was NOT in the root directory). To solve the problem I bought something from the marketplace and "Received items" appeared in "Recent" tab because it contained a recently bought item. I moved it to inventory root directory and now everything works fine. |
Ayumi Cassini commented at 2014-05-01T11:14:37Z, updated at 2014-05-01T12:48:56Z Also, the problem with inventory trying to load even when it is already loaded might be somehow connected to "Received items" folder in wrong place - because I noticed similar behaviour in my inventory while having this problem. Perhaps some kind of infinite loop is created when you have inventory in another folder, and inside there's a folder with another inventory etc. ;) EDIT |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-05-01T15:12:06Z Oh Goodness, yes, this is possible! I just reproduced this on Second Life 3.7.6 (289164) Apr 16 2014 15:15:22 (Second Life Release) - I now have my Received items folder within my system Notecards folder. |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-05-01T15:15:35Z It is also possible to move your Received Items folder inside Trash in the Recent items tab and then empty your trash. I just broke my alt :D |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-05-01T16:01:57Z Hmm it appears that Sonya's issue is different however. Repro

Alexa Linden commented at 2014-05-01T18:15:16Z Sonya, you're good to login. Please take a look (pardon the 2 purchases (zero and 1 Linden) I made to fix your account. Does everything look correct now? |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-05-01T18:26:30Z I looooove you, Alexa, you're my hero! All fixed and good now. I don't know what you did, waved a magic wand for all I care, but problem solved. Thank you thank you thank you! |
Alexa Linden commented at 2014-05-01T18:27:30Z Send love and magic wand waving to Whirly as she's the person who was able to figure this out. She's pretty amazing :) |
Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-05-01T18:31:33Z Love and coffee and cookies to Whirly, then! :D |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-05-01T18:44:26Z Yay! <3 The repro to get the behaviour you had is:

Sonya Marmurek commented at 2014-05-05T18:34:38Z Just for further information, it did it again: the whole section vanished. This time I had not opened secondary inventory windows at all, and don't know what might have triggered it. The fix, however, stayed the same. I bought a demo from the Marketplace, which forced the section to appear (with the whole inventory in it, like before). Then I grabbed the 'received items' folder in the recent tab, dragged it to 'my inventory' and relogged. Immediate fix! I don't know what all can possibly cause this, but at least the fix works. <3 |
Ansariel Hiller commented at 2014-06-11T10:09:50Z Maybe it has to do with the fact that the Received Items folder is NOT a protected folder anymore and could be moved around the inventory freely - see http://hg.secondlife.com/viewer-release/commits/92176a694e210263f14128d2c0338948c96e6d12 |
Whirly Fizzle commented at 2014-07-11T01:34:07Z Fixed on https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.7.12.291824 |
Steps to Reproduce
I suspect that it might have been opening a secondary inventory window that triggered this, but since I'm stuck with it, I cannot test if that was the key. Otherwise nothing special.
Actual Behavior
My Received Items Folder vanished. The whole button-bar of it. When I purchased a demo from the Marketplace to force it to appear, the MP purchases are not there, instead it has my whole inventory under it, like a duplicate, just in messed up order.
Expected Behavior
Obviously expecting to be able to shop from the Marketplace and the received items folder to work as intended.
Other information
I use the latest official SL viewer. I have tried clearing the cache, and when that didn't help, I re-downloaded the latest viewer, uninstalled my SL, deleted manually the user info from AppData/Roaming/SecondLife, then re-installed the viewer, and the problem is still there.
