This would provide a extra tab for Grid Status within the viewer. Click it would bring us a floater presenting the Grid Status page, in a similar fashion to the profiles and search pages. Further, the icon could turn red to indicate a current alert (similar to BUG-41150).
This is functionally similar to my earlier "Emergency Grid Broadcast System" (VWR-20081). As the Grid Status page now exists away from the same systems as the rest of Second Life, this avoids issues with such a floater hampering repair efforts in critical moments (like the old "god shouts" used to), which has hampered effects to include Grid Status in the viewer. Alternately, this could potentially work like an RSS reader, akin to VWR-27359, but specific to https://secondlife-status.statuspage.io/history.atom or https://secondlife-status.statuspage.io/history.rss
Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?
Grid Status is a key thing for every Second Life user, and having it within the viewer in such a fashion would help people know promptly that there is an issue inworld, and protect their assets and improve their experience. It would also help people to know that LL is there with them, helping to protect their precious assets when they need them most.
Quicker and easier access to Grid Status from within the Second Life viewer
