This is a submission of this idea as asked of me on the original feature request 1. BUG Project BUG-40480.
I would like to see the ability to import and export ban lists added to the Second Life viewer. This would very simply work in the following manner :
Region Panel and Land Panel : When you enter the region / land panel and look under the estate tab / access you have the two different Banned Residents list. My thoughts on how this would work would be that two more buttons, called Import and Export, would be added underneath the ban list. If for some reason the land owner was moving to a different plot or taking a break from land ownership all together they could just simply click export and a pop up window would ask them where they would like to save the exported ban list. Once they click save it would export the current list of banned avatars as a text file locally on to their computer. Then at a later date if they decided to take up land ownership again or have transferred to new land, they could very simply click the Import button which would then pop up another window that asks them to locate the exported text file. Once they have found it, the viewer would import the list of names and commence the banning procedure for each one. Another way you could do it is by having a menu option that does the same thing. Only when you click Import or Export it asks you whether you wish to use the Region Ban List or the Land Ban List.
Groups : It would pretty much work the same as above. Two extra buttons on the Banned Residents tab called Import and Export. Would save the same way and load the same way when imported back in.
Another idea might be to have the list export to a notecard in your inventory and then you simply drag the notecard onto the ban list to import the names contained within.
Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?
As it stands, we have no option or feature to perform this action in Second Life. So if we move to a different plot or a different region we have to keep a manual record, in a notecard or other similar place, of all the avatars we have banned for various different reasons. Allowing us to import and export these names would allow residents to take their ban list with them when they move plots and hopefully help prevent old griefers, trollers and other trouble makers from being able to return to cause more trouble.
