This was a subject in the TPV meeting on Friday and Vir/DaveP asked that I create a Jira for it, for internal discussion.
Our suggestions was the server sends:
— [ Start of recent chat history ]---
then the chat history here (viewers can decide on bold, italic, colors, etc)
— [ End of recent chat history ]---
You may well have a better solution, or you may just decide that each viewer should implement its own way of denoting recent history.
(Current issue is that people open a group tab and see chat, then assume its current and that the viewer has failed to open the group IM for them).
Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?
Although each viewer could implement their own version of Start/End of recent history, having it server side would standardise it for all viewers.
Inara Pey summarised it well:
TPVD: it has been suggested that LL might want to add code to the new Group Chat History functionality to indicate the end of historic Group chat within a Group chat tab / panel, as people appear to be getting confused as to why they are opening Group chat to find past conversations displayed (due to word about the new functionality taking time to spread).
Anyway, I'm just tossing this out there as requested and if you can advise if there is any action your end or not on this, then we can code something similar ourselves (but of course it would not be uniform for each viewer).
Cheers, Torric
