What just happened?

Right clicking on a friends name in contacts and wanting to view the chat transcript. It works for some, but also on others the option is greyed out. This started with the BOM enabled viewer(s). Before no issues at all with it.

What were you doing when it happened?

Same as previous question.

What were you expecting to happen instead?

To view the chat transcript.

Other information

To access the chat transcript via right click at contacts.

Mace reported this on the Firestorm Bug Tracker here https://jira.firestormviewer.org/browse/FIRE-28990

however no one has been able to reproduce it so far.

Thank you for the report. We investigated your issue however it would be helpful if you could provide some additional information. Would you be able to attach a screenshot of your conversation log available in the Communication / Conversation Log menu item. And if you could show us an example of where the username is showing in the conversation log but right clicking on the friends name in contacts has the view chat transcript disabled. In addition, the names that should show chat transcripts can usually be found in C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife<SecondLife_username\ - names with transcripts would have a .txt file extenstion. If you see names with .txt files present in that folder that do not include the show chat transcript option screenshots of that would be helpful as well.

The included pics are taken are in the FS viewer, but shows the same in the Linden Labs viewer, it's identical.

Thank you.  A follow up question, does the View Chat History link work for user's that do not have a last name like SarahBeths ?  One thing I noticed is that the file names in the transcripts.png file have spaces in the file names like "Randonee Noel" vs. "Randonee_Noel" which is how I see names on my Windows machine for users that have last names.  May not be it, but just wanted to check.

The view chat history does not always work with users that have no last name either. Wutzhername is an example, Sareenlee is another, SaraBeths does work. The names in the transcripts have always been written that way on my machine.  Same with txt. files not related to SL.

What i can't grasp is why did i have no problem with this before the bom enabled viewers were released? I am on SL for quite a long time and never seen this before. It puzzles me. Does not seem to matter if they have a last name or "resident".

So focussing on Sareenlee - if you send a new IM to that user, does this enable the view chat transcripts option for that user?

Also, if you open that Sareenlee.txt file do you see anything in that file that may be corrupted?

My last IM with her was yesterday and that did not change the view transcripts option. I checked the file and don't see anything strange in it. Tested again with sending a message, result is the same.

Ok, one thing we thought to try is to rename the Sareenlee.txt file to something like Sareenlee.txt.bak (so you do not lose the history) and then send an IM to that user to see if the newly created transcript file will then work to activate the view chat history link.  You can then rename Saranlee.txt.bak back to Saranlee.txt.

Ok, renamed the file and sent a new IM. Now the view chat transcript becomes visible. When i rename the original back to .txt, the option is yet again greyed out.

Investigated with Mace Payne inworld and with a provided chat log file that was not working.  The file encoding was set to UTF-8 with BOM and the link to show chat history did not work.  Simply changing the encoding of the log text file to just UTF-8 fixed the problem.  So we need to investigate if there were changes  in how the viewer may handle UTF-8 with BOM encoding vs just UTF-8 encoding related to chat transcript links.
