Studying the behavior of the SL moon, I note that unlike pre-EEP viewers, the moon down't fade out as it gets closer to the horizon, but remains at full brightness even at the horizon.
As a result, it ends up outshining everything in the foreground, appearing too prominent in nighttime scenes. In the attached photo, compare it to the largely faded-out forefront items as an example. Also, compare to, for example, this video of the actual moon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0xph44sxUc
What were you doing when it happened?
Moon watching
What were you expecting to happen instead?
Under pre-EEP viewers, the moon would begin to fade out the closer it got to the horizon, to the point where it was almost entirely gone as it approached the horizon.
Other information
I'd also echo others who have noted that the default moon image appears to be black and white. :-)
