What just happened?

Using the Environmental Enhancement Project viewer, and note that items sometimes appear full bright. This is most noticeable at Midnight settings.

What were you doing when it happened?

Just in SL

What were you expecting to happen instead?

Not see this. ;-)

Other information

Notes on photos:

One shows the ground and other structures in an region. Setting is midnight. All items are nevertheless showing themselves as if they were full bright.

Another shows my typical avatar. Note the full bright appearance of both the socks and the neck "fader" which are showing as if full bright. Both are on a section of the body mesh and likely are using an alpha channel.

One other shot showing full bright artifacts on a LAQ mesh head. These can appear randomly though the head, and vary by lighting.

For what it is worth, I noted the same issue on the "ponytail" worn in one of the attachments above, leading me to assume that it is indeed rendering worm items with an alpha channel as full bright. Doesn't explain the general brightness of the ground and other objects in the above, as those do not to knowledge have an alpha channel.

Also noticing that the effect seems more pronounced in the sky versus ground level. EDIT: I'm beginning to wonder further on the cause, as I've seen it as expected 100m above and below my work platform, but appearing full bright when I am standing the platform itself.

Noting on current build. This still appears to be occurring.

[~marianne.mccann] Is your current build 6.2.0.525808?

Yes, Second Life Release 6.2.0.525808 (64bit). I added a new photo to this JIRA, replicating the issue.

The location the photo was taken is http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bay%20City%20-%20Imaginario/19/235/2495 - there is a security device at this location, but I have whitelisted Dan Linden. I can add whomever (or turn off if needed for testing).

Yes, the area does have a lot of projected lighting, which is my assumed culprit.

Still an issue on 6.2.0.526104

Also though somewhat different, this remains an issue in Second Life Release 6.2.3.527250. Overall lighting looks substantially worse than previous.

Big change with Second Life Release 6.4.0.529247 (64bit), though I can't say it is an improvement. The parts that were previously full bright when seen under projectors now present no reaction to light, rendering as if no light is applied to them. See attached image.

There is a known issue with 6.4.0.529247 that system hair (Ruth hair) appears black. Besides that, does any part of your avatar appear darker in EEP than in the Release viewer (6.2.3.527758)?

I did test the black legacy hair issue, and I see it on my system as well. I do not see any of the items pictured as solid black.

I've taken a bit of time to examine this further under the current viewer, hitting several angles. In most cases, projected light is intercting with items on the avatar with an alpha channel as we've been seeing (acting full bright). Picture 1 and 3 display this, with the neck fader, the socks, and the alpha sections of the hair. I note, however, that the effect is lessened compared to some previous betas. It's more of a "brighter than surrounding objects" that truly "full bright."

Yet in some lighting, it is appering darker, such as in the middle photo. The neck fader in this shot is dark, and the white socks appear grey (that's not an unloaded texture!).

As an aside, I also note the color shift on the shoes. They are pink, as seen in the middle shot, but appear purple in the others. Those do not have a 32 bit texture on them, so I am thinking this may be some other issue, perhaps specular related)

Hi Marianne,
Can you send a copy of that outfit to Dan Linden and Alexa Linden?

Hiya Mari!

You can out all the outfit parts in a box named "BUG-226531 repro outfit" & leave the box rezzed & post the SLURL to the box here. The Lindens can God-take a copy of the box.

This type of setup, alpha textures near projector lights, should look very similar to Release in the next EEP build (6.4.0.530500 or greater).
