Steps To Reproduce

After a long period of login time, avatar physics get stuck/frozen in a slightly deformed shape.

I've spent the better part of a week trying to observe this issue, and I haven't found anything concrete to reproduce it consistently; yet it happens every day.

Things I've observed
Physics can become stuck after 4 hours (rare).
Physics can become stuck after 12 hours (near consistent).
Physics can become stuck after 18 hours (consistent).

Actual Behavior

I've seen the physics be fine, and I detach an object, and then the phsyics are stuck.
I've tried lots of things to reproduce the bug, teleporting to different servers, detaching / reattaching objects, the only truly consistent cause seems to be time.
And I am unable to find a work around to reset my physics apart from relogging.

Detaching phyics and adding a different physics layer has no affect.
Resetting skeleton has no affect.
Resetting Mesh LOD has no affect.
Using Firestorm's "refresh attachments" feature had no effect.

Haven't been able to reproduce this issue in versions before the physics FPS fixes.
Other avatars will still see your physics when this happens. You will not be able to see others physics when this happens; in fact they will be deformed in the same fashion.

Expected Behavior

Physics to not get stuck.

Other information

You will not be able to see other avy's physics when this happens; in fact they will be deformed in the same fashion.

I don't think this bug is new on Maint Nalewka or other viewer builds with the avatar physics FPS fixes.
We've had this bug reported on Firestorm several times, going back several years.
However Scentual couldn't reproduce this problem on the LL default viewer, she could only reproduce it on Maint Nalewka, going by her comments on https://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-22135.

Anyway, for reference, SUP-17036 was reported in May 2016 against Firestorm 4.7.7.48706 (build date Mar 5 2016) & it's the exact same issue as this.
This is a support ticket so it's not public, but here is one of my comments on that issue with more details.

I met with Voo inworld & we did some testing.

He reproduced the problem with my avatar when I was wearing avatar physics.
The problem reproduces without the Maitreya body too.

Problem reproduced when I was wearing the default female shape and a new Physics layer with only 2 settings changed away from default:

  • Breasts Bounce, Max effect =100
  • Breasts Sway, Max effect = 100.

When the problem reproduces, removing the physics layer instantly fixes the problem & adding the physics layer again causes the problem to happen.

Problem is not limited to just one breast - Voo saw my avatar with both breasts deformed sometimes.
What seems to be happening is when the physics layer is worn & you get the initial crazy boob sway, one of both breasts get stuck in that position.

Voo tested on Singularity 64bit. LL viewer & Firestorm 32bit & couldnt reproduce the problem.
However when relogging again on Firestorm 64bit, the problem wouldn't reproduce again, so we must have just got lucky when initially testing.

Problem reproduces at all graphics quality settings.
Disabling hardware skinning makes no difference.
Limiting FPS makes no difference.

The filer of this issue reported it just mysteriously fixed itself.

We also have another support ticket reporting this problem more recently againt the current release of Firestorm 5.0.7. This build does not contain any of the recent physics FPS fixes from PE though.
Here is the image the filer attached - https://prnt.sc/hz6vw0
The filer was mysteriously fixed by recreating the Firestorm client bridge - which I'm pretty sure was just coincidental timing.

Note that most (not all) reports of this problem are that only the right breast is deformed & sticking out to the side.

Also note the older report at VWR-25625, which may be related.

I couldn't reproduce it on the 5.1.0.511248 viewer. (Which was the Project Alex Ivy Viewer, 64-bit test viewer) Nor could I reproduce on Firestorm 5.0.7 64-bit.
However it is happening every day, sometimes twice a day on the current Firestorm Beta 5.0.11 + Maintenance Viewer version listed.

And certainly none of my physics settings are turned all the way up to 100. lol!
But it happens with light subtle physics, as well as with heavier physics.
I just stay logged in, and pop, boobs + belly + butt get stuck in odd shapes.(which my butt has all the sliders on 0 anyway as it's covered my by tail).

Hi Scentual,

I suspect that some of the fixes we're working on in the Maintenance viewer could be the cause for this bug report, and a side effect of fixing BUG-202722.

As we promoted Alex Ivy (64 bit viewer) to release today, please feel free to use that now. You may download it directly from https://get.secondlife.com

Thank you for the report!

@ScentualLust What FPS is your viewer running normally at? Have you disabled FPS limit?

I have reproduced this bug both with both an FPS limit of 30, and no FPS limit.
I need to test the new release build Kyle mentioned to try and reproduce there.
(am currently trying to repro on the new Firestorm beta, 53634)

Reproduced bug on rev. 53655 and the new physics patch for "Reset Skeleton & Animations" option didn't fix it.

@kyle.linden I was unable to reproduce the stuck physics in Release 5.1.0.511732 - however now that I have been logged in over 80 hours, my boobs are vibrating a bit, but physics otherwise is working normally. (am I to take it this was part of BUG-202722 ? is the fix for that not in 5.1.0.511732 ?)

We do not ship new fixes under same build numbers.
Supposed fix is in Maintenance branch 5.1.1.512226 and later. I assume that you had a rare case of 'clock' jump issue or some kind of 'clock' desync. If it indeed the case, it could have stopped happening on its own in 5.1.0.511732.
