Steps to Reproduce

Make sure your IE11 is patched with update 11.0.32/KB3160005/MS16-063. Randomly search for items, especially items that you haven't searched for before. I was putting in just random words like spam, slurm, car, boat, etc.

Actual Behavior

Searches may or may not complete, or take a long time to complete. When they fail, the IE11 tab will say "Waiting for marketplace..."

Expected Behavior

Searches to return in a timely fashion.

Other information

Appears to work fine on Firefox, Chrome, Safari. The same search term in those browsers returns quickly with results. Haven't tried Edge. Have not tried other versions of Windows.

I can't reproduce this on my Windows 7 64bit system on IE 11.
I have KB3160005 installed.

Uhhg... I wonder if it is specific to Windows 10, or if further digging is required to narrow it down. The MS surface had a fresh Windows 10 installed, no other applications whatsoever, and was also on a different network with a different ISP. It behaved the same as the Win 10 machine at home... frequent search failures or really long delays. Opening FF right beside it on the home machine, and I could use the same search term and get quick results.

Also, try doing 3 or more searches in quick succession.

Windows 10 got the MS16-063 patch via the KB3163018 update. I am having no troubles searching the Marketplace with IE11 on Windows 10 with that update installed (and all the rest of the updates from that patch Tuesday).

OAIA, thanks. I was wondering why I couldn't find the KB310005 patch in the list. I'm going to try and revert. Seriously, this IS on a clean install, 2 different ISPs and 2 different computers. I'll have to take a video of the behavior in action.

I'm also unable to reproduce on my Windows 10 64bit Laptop with IE 11 (including KB310005) or with Edge browser.

Are you using the beta marketplace search? The beta search can still be pretty slow to return results.

I'm working on trying to narrow it down. Here is a video to show I am not nuts ;-)

This is the Surface Pro 3, connected via ethernet on the Surface dock. The only item installed other than Windows 10 is FF. IE 11 is on the left, FF on the Right. I can replicate this at home on Frontier (formerly Verizon) and at work on a 100Mbit corporate ISP connection. Both machines are using just the built-in MS antivirus.

I removed the patch that ObviousAltIsObvious suggested contained the MS16-063 patch for my Windows 10 install, and the search speed returned to normal.

BTW, no, I am not using the beta search.

Has something been changed? I was not able to replicate the issue this afternoon.

I see ~61 second delay when loading Marketplace pages about 40 to 60 percent of the time when using IE 11 on Windows 10. I tried clearing all browser stores, including the rote "clear cookies and cache" with no improvement. (BUG-41241) The action that did eliminate about 60.9 seconds of that delay was enabling InPrivate. From what I see I suspect the browser is delaying the request. I have no idea why that might happen so cannot determine if there is something unreasonable in the web page or if the browser is malfunctioning. I suspect the browser because it claims it is waiting for a DNS query reply but I didn't see it send a DNS query.
