This seems to affect all particles that display inworld where the particle texture is shipped with the viewer.
For example:
Avatar selection beam.
Avatar particle cloud.
The particles that display around an avatar when they teleport.
The particles that display around an avatar when they logout.
The particles that display around a scripted object when a new script is added.
Steps to Reproduce
Login on Second Life 4.0.2 (312269) Mar 9 2016 16:36:13 (Second Life Release)
Perform the steps below and watch how the particle textures render.
Force your avatar to be a particle cloud - ways to do this are given in BUG-11472.
Rez a box and edit it.
Observe particle edit beam.
Rez a box and create a new script inside the box.
Observe the particles around the box.
Observe the particle effects around avatars teleporting out of a region.
Logout.
Observe the particle effects around your avatar.
Observed Behaviour
Since the changes to fix the mini profile icons memory bloat, particle textures that are packaged with the viewer will often display as unrezzed squares for a few seconds before they fully rez in.
This generally happens the first time those particle textures are seen in a session but it also happens quite frequently even if those textures have been seen previously in the session if there has been a short amount of time passed.
Problem reproduces with both a clean & dirty cache.
Expected Behaviour
These particle textures should load instantly as they used to do.
Particle textures loaded from the viewer repository of textures often fail to rez correctly.
