[BUG-10854] "Basic Shaders" feature has an effect to displaying items of Top Menu and Navigation bar. #1140

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Clean all viewer settings.
  2. Login to viewer.
  3. Open Me menu ->Preferences.
  4. Click Graphics tab and then click Advanced button.
  5. Set the Quality and speed slider to Mid.
  6. Uncheck "Basic Shaders" checkbox.
  7. Set the Quality and speed slider between Mid and High.
  8. Uncheck "Basic Shaders" checkbox.
  9. Set the Quality and speed slider to Mid again.
  10. Uncheck "Basic Shaders" checkbox.

Actual Behavior

Font and buttons are corrupted in Top Menu and Navigation bar. If you open any top menu item (Me, Communication etc.) the background has around 5% opacity (see image Basic_shaders_effect.png).

Expected Behavior

Top Menu and Navigation bar should display and work correctly.

Other information

That scenario is one of couple, but it is the fastest for reproduction. User can couple of times change the graphics settings from Low to High, and when he uncheck "Basic Shaders", top menu will be corrupted.

I can repro the broken UI using the steps on both BUG-4280 & your steps above.

Fastest & easiest way for me to reproduce it on my system is:

I guess it depends on your card/driver version which combination of shader twiddle causes the breakage when basic Shaders are disabled.

Another interesting effect which only happens when the UI is broken in this way.
Edit your shape.
Local bakes will be invisible and avatar will be invisible in the edit appearance window thumbnails.

On my systen I must have Basic Shaders and Bump Mapping & Shiny disabled to break the local bakes.
(I'm using a single monitor - behaviour for local bakes may be different on a dual monitor setup when SL runs on the secondary monitor)
