I'm not sure if this is a server issue or a viewer issue.
It seems to reproduce on any viewer though so I suspect it's a server issue.

Steps To Reproduce

  • Rez a new box inworld.

  • Open inventory & choose any folder containing a few items - the number of items and the item types do not matter. The permissions of the items in the folder also do not matter.

  • This folder, Folder A, should have been created over 24 hours ago.

  • It only matters how long ago Folder A was created, not how long ago the folder contents were added to inventory.

  • Either, drag Folder A over onto the box inworld (as shown in Fig 1)

  • Or, Edit the box & open the Content tab & drag Folder A into the box contents.

  • Observe that you cannot drag the folder onto the box or into the box contents.

  • The viewer will display the "no entry" icon when you try.

  • See Fig 1 attached.

  • Now create a new folder in inventory, Folder B.

  • Add a few items to Folder B.

  • You can copy or move the contents from Folder A into Folder B if you want, but the contents of Folder B do not matter, only the fact that Folder B was created recently matters.

  • Either, drag Folder B over onto the box inworld.

  • Or, Edit the box & open the Content tab & drag Folder B into the box contents.

  • Observe that Folder B can be dragged directly onto the Box & the contents of Folder B are copied into the Box.

  • Observe that Folder B can be dragged into the box contents tab & the contents of Folder B are copied into the Box.

  • See Fig 2 attached.

  • Relog & drag Folder B into a rezzed box again.

  • Observe Folder B can still be dragged into the box after relogging.

  • Wait ~ 24hrs, maybe a little longer.

  • Attempt to drag Folder B into a box again.

  • Observe Folder B can no longer be dragged into the box.

    Observed Behaviour

A folder can only be dragged into object contents if the folder was created roughly 24 hours ago or less.

    Expected Behaviour

  • Not sure!

  • I'm not sure I like the idea of being able to drag whole folders into an object, especially when direct dropping rather then dragging the folder into the contents tab when the box is in edit.
I feel this could cause perceived inventory loss after dealing with a user who accidentally dragged a newly created folder full of no copy items into the floor of her house.

  • Whether a folder should be allowed to be dragged into an object or not, the behaviour is really inconsistent at the moment.
It should not matter how old the folder is whether you can drag it into task inventory.

    Other Information

  • Refer to old issue VWR-2718

  • From VWR-2718 it appears that you used to be able to drag open folders into object contents & then it broke.

  • Possibly the VWR-2718 filer had the same problem reported here though & it was only ever newly created folders that allowed dropping into task inventory, I don't know.
