Environment: Registration Portal, any client.

 Description  « Hide
User at any level: Reproduce the problem. Use your own referral link to create an alt. Report whether or not you receive a calling card for your main.

Detailed instructions:
Get your referral link here.
https://secure-web6.secondlife.com/account/referral.php?lang=en
Or go to the Second Life Main Page, Log in, and use the refer-a-friend link on the Left Sidebar
In the body of a page is a link that look like
http://www.secondlife.com/join/?u=265d1332e5654100823cef53d7bbcb10

Use the link to create an alt.

Make sure to use the NEW Registration portal. You know it's the new portal because it makes you pick a first name before populating the last name drop-down box. If you get the old registration portal, close your web browser and try again.

Log in using the new account.
Check the inventory. Does the new account have a calling card for your main? Does the alt receive a blue dialog message saying "You can now contact [main's name here] or anyone else" or something to that effect?
Then, log in to your main account. Does your main have a calling card for the new alt? It should!

Report the results back here.

Confirmed.

This is confirmed. I've duplicated it about 3 times... Each time it does what it's supposed to, and give a message upon login.

Thanks!

DjJoe,
Thanks for taking the time. Did you use the NEW registration portal?

Adz Childs added a comment - 16/Dec/08 07:24 PM
Well, I'm still not getting any new calling cards. And we have one commenter saying the system is confirmed as broken, and another commenter saying the system is confirmed as behaving as expected. In other words, we have a tie.

By the end of the weekend, I'll go in and register four new alts, two with the new portal, two with the old. I'LL TAKE SCREENSHOTS.
(If you don't know what the new portal versus the old portal means, read here : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-841?focusedCommentId=89986#action_89986 ) Hopefully this does not get me flagged for creating too many alts.

Step by step creation of "Helix Galaxy" using "Nicolas Biddle" Referral Code. Results in no calling cards exchanged.

Okay so it looks like all the 24 secure-web servers now redirect to https://join.secondlife.com/, where I think the u= parameter is discarded. The old portal is gone. There is no way to complete this test.

Reopening.
These snapshots confirm that the Refer-A-Friend system is not behaving as expected.

DjJoe Magic, if you are getting expected behavior from refer-a-friend links, please identify what is different about what you are doing, compared to the snapshots I have attached.

Thanks again. -Adz
