Update 2008-07-25 New Names Last Released: 70 Days Ago. No publicly available last name has fewer than 2,000 registrants under it, except Pond. Average Number of Agents per active last name (excluding GossipGirl and Pond): 8,070. If you compare this figure to the one I posted 25 days ago, you can see that these 100 names are becoming dense quickly.
Last name Magic has 51,163 active accounts under it (source http://slnamewatch.com/last_name_Magic.html ), making it among the 20 all-time most heavily used last names in Second Life (source http://slnamewatch.com/index.php?action=list_records&status_filter=all&sort_order=DESC&order_by=usage_count ).
These figures do not include banned/canceled accounts whose names no longer appear in in-world search, but increase name density by an unknown amount. These figures do not include interrupted registrations which also increase name density for no good reason. (see WEB-241 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-241 ).
Based on your last name FAQ (https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4195 ), I realize there is no set schedule to releasing last names. However, it also says "Last names are currently retired manually after being picked in the high hundreds on average..." All of the currently available last names meet this criteria.
--------
New Names Last Released 45 Days Ago (source: http://www.slnamewatch.com ). However, at that time you only released 100 new names to replace the over 200 you retired that day (see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-678 ). This means that these names filled up extremely quickly. At this time. none of them have fewer than 1000 registrants under them. Average usage is 4,800 per last name when you subtract GossipGirl, Pond, and Messenger which are not available through the official registration portal.
Please retire the current last names and release some new ones. Thank you.
