Linden Lab Issue ID: SL-31676

 Description  « Hide
This issue is related to Rob Linden's comment on WEB-58:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-58#action_27985

I've paraphrased/quoted his explanation here:

==================================================================

JIRA now sends email for a majority of SL users, but there is one substantial caveat. This was the result of a manual one-time push of email addresses which required downtime to accomplish (ugh). We don't yet have automatic synchronization in place, so people who have never logged into JIRA won't be able to get emails until we sync databases again. Part of the reason for the delay in enabling this feature in the first place is that we were holding out for the automatic solution, and only recently broke down and accepted the manual solution as a temporary workaround.

Next week, we'll get an estimate for when automatic synchronization will be in place, whether or not subsequent manual syncs will be necessary, and how frequently we'll be doing those.

==================================================================

So, we're close to an ideal situation, but we're not quite there. It's pretty important that users who enter issues receive emails about those issues. Often more information is required, and this information is requested in a comment on the issue. Issues in this state are supposed to be "Resolved", indicating that no action can be taken by LL until more information is provided by the user. Most users don't watch all of the issues they've reported on a daily basis, so it's critical that updates to reported issues are emailed proactively to ALL users of JIRA.

We're almost there with this manual synchronization, but automatic synchronization of all email addresses for all new SL users is still of critical importance to the success of this JIRA.

"Next week, we'll get an estimate for when automatic synchronization will be in place..." Any update?

Also, am I correct in thinking that fixing this would also fix the problem of not automatically watching issues that you create? I remember a comment to that effect, but apparently that's not in this issue.

Sorry, there have been a lot of delays in getting this out. and I don't have a clear answer on exactly when this will happen. It is very close now, though, running in a test environment with the latest version of JIRA (3.12.1). I've asked our provider to propose a time to upgrade the system, but I haven't heard back on this yet. I hope that it will be in the next week or two, but I don't have confirmation of that.

Celierra: With respect to automatically watching issues: you should already automatically receive emails on issues you create or issues that are assigned to you. You aren't added to the watchlist for the issue, thus you will still see the "watch it" link, but that shouldn't matter. Are you finding that you aren't receiving emails for issues you create?

I just tried it, and it works (I get an e-mail regardless of whether it's on my watchlist); thanks. I just kinda instinctively always hit the "Watch it" button.

The upgrade from this morning addressed this issue.

Does this mean we can stop calling JIRA "beta"?
