 Description  « Hide
Suggestions:

Have the default dashboard be one for basic, non-technical users. Move the huge list of filters and the Project Reports things (i.e. things not applicable to a basic user) to a second dashboard - those who want the advanced display to be their default can move the second dashboard up to the first position on their "Manage Portal" page.

Have brief instructions right in the introduction, instead of immediately sending people off-JIRA. Preferably include a list of steps, screenshots, common caveats, etc. If necessary, to utilize the whole screen width, one can leave the right column of the dashboard blank.

I can do part of this; speaking of help, we'll likely want to supplement it with a how-to like the one Iridium wrote @ http://secondlife.com/newsletter/2007_07/tips.html

This appears partially done. The 'non-logged-in' dashboard does not show the huge list, and only when you are logged in can you see the "All Filters" portlet. The intro would still need to be written and attached to that 'non-logged-in' dashboard. And, a more detailed intro for the logged in dashboard.

I'm not sure what's going on, but now there's nothing on the 'non-logged-in' dashboard except 'add a new portlet', which throws an exception if you try to go beyond the first page...

I think Rob Linden removed the filter list from the not-logged-in because the queries were cluttery AND slowing down PJIRA too (I wish we didn't have to worry about such performance constraints, it's like walking on eggshells sometimes).

I don't see the "add a new portlet" when not logged in?

Strange... I don't recall seeing "add a new portlet" before I logged in, but now, after I log out, I see it again (with the same crash)...

I think it's really important to add two big, shiny buttons on the dashboard

"Want to report a bug? Click here"

Red

"Want to Request a new feature? Click here"

green

And change the "Find issues" to "Search", make it bigger and shinier.

Jeremy was just suggesting I mention this, in the Jira, and he didn't know where. This Jira is just plain intimidating and confusing to navigate. How am I to distinguish, between Web, Svc and Msc, until I've found the category I'm looking for. Is this even the right department, to recurse the confusion?

Hi - yep, this is the right place. Thanks for the comment. Any additional suggestions?

The following issue has been reviewed and imported for implementation. We are targeting Friday, Nov. 14th for full implementation and documentation.

The default dashboard can only be one ... so we created one that gives more instructions and put the lists at the bottom. There is also a suggestion to add "hot topics" to this - WEB-882.
(note: this will only effect people that are using the default dashboard. if you've customized it in any way, you won't see these changes)

Wow, that's much better. Thanks Sue! (Didn't know there could only be one default, so I'm content. )

There's a minor broken link in the first paragraph, the word "here" in "A more in depth look into PJIRA and the how-to's can be found here." I'm assuming that should actually be a link to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Issue_tracker ?

Oops! Thanks for the catch. Fixed!
