It's a bug report either way. If you can't do something you are supposed to do, it's a bug.
I cant find anything other than CC info and email, either. Hrm. Are we supposed to change anything else?
Given that so many places around the website qualify things with "/if/ your account information is correct...", I'd say you're supposed to change anything that isn't accurate: Real Name, Address, anything which might be useful for (as mentioned) the upcoming Age Verification.
There is currently no way to switch from "I'm trying Second Life for the first time and don't want to give accurate personal information to a site I don't trust" to "I like Second Life and would like to pay money now." without opening a new account. We don't have a self-serve way to do this yet, so if you need to change your info, please send a support ticket through http://support.secondlife.com
Pardon it's not more automatic! Linked to internal issue... IMHO, manually changing many accounts doesn't sound like a good use of time, and just makes it harder for you.
I looked through the support ticket pages before. They said that non-pay accounts would have all tickets rejected except ones from a short list which did not include "updating account information".
Meanwhile, there is no way to turn a non-pay account into a pay account unless accurate information is already on file. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my previous comment, or maybe I was just spoiled by the previous speedy response: Where on the support page am I meant to go? I have only a basic account and no way to upgrade to a non-basic account because of this issue.
I bumped the Priority up one to Major cuz of the above comment where you can't upgrade an account to premium if you have inaccurate info on file. Also allowing residents to update their info will reduce support workload for people requesting updates thru support as Torley pointed out. ^^;
My point was that not only can you not upgrade your account to premium without accurate information, you also can't get your information made accurate without having a premium account.
Trying to open a support ticket with a non-premium account gets you a short dropdown list for which "my account information needs to be updated" is not an option. I agree that this is major in the sense that there is apparently NO workaround, though I'm not sure if it's major as I don't know how unique my situation is. Until this issue is resolved, there does not appear to be any way (short of my signing up for a whole new account) for me to /ever/ have a premium account, pay for alts, or just buy some Linden$s. Just to show you aren't unique: I can't change my CC details as well. Or (to be precise) I can (and indeed have done so) deleted my old CC info, as that card had expired, but cannot enter the information on my new card.
Some of us agree that at the very least, you should be able to see the info you provided.
Has this been touched at all recently?
At the time I was considering paying for SL. it's been so long now since I tried to update my info to allow this, I am not really planning on it anymore. Shouldn't this be a simple fix? This is definitely a new feature that is a good idea. If Linden Lab considers putting fake real life info to be suspension worthy, then it would be ideal to correct the problem yourself before you get banned. I've heard quite a few cases (in the SL forums) where people sign up for Second Life for the first time and put in fake information because they don't know if the site is safe yet. Correcting real life info on an account being done by Lindens is indeed a waste of resources and time. If your account is suspended, you can still fill out a support ticket for a free account. You have to select special as the ticket type, and select, "my account was suspended/banned, and I don't know why" Tell them your real info in the ticket; they may ask you some questions to verify that you own the account.
I'm wondering about the lack of this feature. I'm familiar with several internet services that require detailed account information and let the users change it themselves.
It's a typical standard feature on account detail pages to at least see (thanks Torley) AND edit provided account information (e.g. if you moved and your home address changed). I suggest implementing that function ASAP. Age verification is on the rise, and it will be a major problem for LL to handle all the ticket requests on "Updating my account information" issues. Do yourself a favor and let the users change their account details on their own! This hasn't been worked on – it's still an "open issue" but I've asked the Lindens who looked at it earlier if any work is going to be done soon. Thanks for your continued feedback, and you're welcome.
TY Torley, I was informed by a friend that they were invited to phone to provide the information, but using up valuable people resources when it could be done via the website is not only crazy but very expensive if you do not live in North America (the person invited to phone was in the USA). This is especially so as Live Chat did not work for me until I switched from OSX and Linux to Vista.
Any work been done on this yet? I might be moving RL house soon so my address will change. How to edit it? Cheers.
any news on this? :/
