 Description  « Hide
The Wiki is throwing database errors, all edits from yesterday night till today seem to be lost in some kind of rollback (see edit history...), new edits are not saving. Marking this as showstopper until it got some attention. Can downgrade to critical then.

seems to be fixed. edits restored. whew... thx!

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 08:49 AM
Restored edits are gone again, bug occurs like described... seemed to be only temporarily fixed. reopening

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 08:52 AM
hrm... and fixed again... I will refrain from toggling this between reopened and closed every couple of minutes... will close it in case the wiki stays fixed for at least one day from now on.

One more remark:

I just found out that - for me - the Special:RecentChanges differs, depending on if I'm logged in or not.
Not just the recent changes. Any page differs. When I'm logged in and look at the MediaWiki:Sitenotice, it's gone. When I log out and look at the page, it's there again (keep in mind that you might need to clear cache to see that).

Are there different servers to balance the load? One for people who are logged in and one for people who aren't?
If so, these two seem to be out of sync...

The problem seemed to be mirror dependent. Should be fixed as of 5 min ago. Could folks check?

Gordon Wendt added a comment - 29/Jun/09 12:15 PM
Problem still occuring. I tested this on https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/2009-06-29. The old version of the page only has two triage issues listed and a comment in the log section, the new version has many more (you can't miss the difference) issues listed.

I tried the following after Blue gave the all clear at approximately 12:00pm.

  • Doing a force reload of the page while logged in
  • Doing a force reload of the page after logging out
  • Clearing cache and restarting browser and then attempting to load while logged out
  • Logging in and attempting to load the page.

I did this in Both the Secondlife browser using secondlife Snowglobe 1.0.2 (2451) and Firefox 3.0.11

One other thing to try when you're having wiki problems: tack "?action=purge" to the end of the URL.

I did this on https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/2009-06-29 , and that seems to have changed things

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 12:23 PM
ok...we did the equivalent of "?action=purge" for the whole site, since we suspect that while the original problem was fixed, the residual cache corruption may have left the artifacts that like the problem on today's bug triage agenda.

Looks as it were fixed...

Gordon Wendt added a comment - 29/Jun/09 01:05 PM
Still doing weird things for me when logged out but that may very well be just residual cache issues that will flush themselves out and everything appears fine when logged in.

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 01:17 PM
How many mirrors are there and does it ensure that I am still on the same mirror after a ?action=purge ?
I'm asking, since it's still occassionally happening when I'm logged off. (I always test the Special:RecentChanges, since it's most obvious there if it works or not). One time, an ?action=purge fixed it. I just tried it again and it didn't... means, it's still not displaying the all changes that happened today. Just 10 of them

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 02:21 PM
definatly still something wrong... (see pic)

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 02:27 PM
hrm, ok, thanks for the reports Zai and Gordon. Back to the drawing board....

Strife Onizuka added a comment - 29/Jun/09 02:31 PM
Yeah, at the very least a dozen changes were lost but for a while a couple hours of changes had gone missing.

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 03:05 PM
guess it's one of the mirrors beeing still out of sync. this is a screen from 5 minutes ago while I was logged off. occasionally checking the recent changes shows either this or the (what I expect to be) full list of updates.

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 03:21 PM
Strife: what page has changes that are missing? Can you let us know the timing of those problems?

Zai, thanks for the second screenshot. I witnessed that myself but wasn't able to repro.

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 03:21 PM
Strife: also...a URL for an article where the possible dataloss would be most obvious.

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 04:12 PM
We tried kicking a few more things which might have had stored cruft. Did that help?

Yoz Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 04:12 PM
We've restarted all the usual suspects, with the aim of clearing out any leftover caches that may be causing this problem. If you still see any bugs, please yell!

Rob Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/09 04:52 PM
Marking as fixed. Please reopen if this is still a problem.

Zai Lynch added a comment - 29/Jun/09 04:55 PM
looks good to me so far *closing*

For the most part seems to be fine now at least as far as I can tell.

Not sure if this is more things goofing up or if this should be a new issue but got this when I got a wrong message error logging in today. When I tried again (with the right password this time) I was able to login fine though so not sure how serious this is.
