It may help to comment on the social use of this facility. It used to be a very good lightweight way of knowing when my partner came online, without having to login to SL (which cannot be exactly called 'lightweight'). This in turns allows work to be done on the computer using other resource intensive systems (graphics packages, compilers etc) without having to have SL running
WorkingOnIt Linden, please don't close this as a dup of
Agree - This is a major issue for many people. This issue is not resolved. This issue is not a duplicate. Please fix rather than redirect responsibility.
Apologies – amidst all the actual dupes, my mistake, thanks for correcting (one of the benefits of JIRA).
Friends Online webpage is "temporarily disabled" because of a different reason: agent presence URL syntax changed. We've received numerous Resident concerns because some are used to checking the website if the inworld list ( Will update with latest status on when this may come back, as soon as I get it. /me adds a vote and suggests a higher priority.
I also use the friends online link on the website daily; it is very important to me. I want it back! I also want the in world friends list to work- and I am tired of of these issues every time there is an update!
Just voted for this issue...I'd really like to see the web-based Friends Online working again, as I used it often before the 1.15 update as have many others.

is working again as of this writing. The previous changes were checked in and went live later, because we were waiting for problems earlier last week with the backbone systems to subside. Enjoy! Reopened again - It is not fixed for all users.
Agree with Taco - this is still not working for me or most people I know in world. Tested it several times on 5/1 and this morning. Not sure why friends list issues keep getting closed without hearing from user community that it is not fixed.
Works for me - have you guys made sure that you're getting a fresh page and not one cached by your web browser?
OK, getting mixed reports. Will check further, thanks.
Those of you experiencing it still – can you please post screenshots here? Are you getting the "temporarily disabled" message (as before) or something else? Also, did you try different webhosts? E.g.,
https://secure-web8.secondlife.com/community/friends.php Looking forward to your findings. Thanks for looking into this, Torley. I've had this problem since January (I have had the svc-85 problem since last November, and was using the friends webpage as a workaround until it stopped working).
No matter what time of day I access this page, only half of my friends show up here - it does not find or recognize anybody with a first name of Q through Z (sometimes it finds the N's, O's and P's, sometimes not). It's happening on all servers. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information, and thanks again. Taco Rubio OK – Mystikal and others who say it's "not working", are you experiencing the same problem of not seeing names with a first name in the latter part of the alphabet, or a different problem? We'll look deeper. Thanks.
Hi so just want to note that friends online on the web is still disabled - rolling restarts are done to fix presence issues so want to make sure friends online disabled on website is not forgotten. Thanks
Well, it was "fixed" (turned back on) for a while, but after the 1.16 rollout its now once again showing "temporarily disabled." And just as before, not a single WORD from any Lindens about it! This isn't a "bug" that just showed up, someone took action and disabled it. Now there may be a good reason WHY its disabled, but it SURE would be helpful if the Lindens would COMMUNICATE about it! WHY was it disabled again, and WHEN may we expect it back, please?? This is a major productivity hit for many - and again extremely frustrating when there's no communication with the residents at all.
Upgraded from "normal" to "major" because for many residents, it IS a major hit to productivity!
I totally agree with Dallas. It is just not acceptable that such an essential feature remains disabled for more than a week, still less that no one cares to tell us what's up with it.
Yep, I agree also. Is it because it is a reopened old issue? The lack of acknowledgement about this is frustrating. Lindens?
The Friends Online webpage has been spotty recently, and we get mixed reports of its functionality.
I would like to clarify too. As I write this, I do see my Friends Online page – however, it loaded very slowly. I don't know why it's been going on/off, but I'll ask our webdevs about it. I apologize for the frustration. What happened recently was that Friends Online webpage was showing as "temporarily disabled" to alleviate pressure on our backbone system. We always try to bring Friends Online back ASAP. Some of you have requested that the placeholder message be more clear, so a more explanatory note should appear in future instances.
Now that this has passed, if there are different, specific problems with Friends Online, please open a new issue for them – thanks again for the help! |
