Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-40954

 Description  « Hide
Avatar-to-Avatar payments show up in the transaction history as "gift". However when buying services, paying staff or other non-vendor transactions, it might be good to know what the payment was actually made for. I suggest an extra input field for freeform text, where the optionally entered text would show up in the transaction histories instead of "gift".

As an addition, llGiveMoney(key destination, integer amount) could get an optional 3rd string parameter with the subject/description line as well, and thus get rid of the "Object pays" nuisance in transaction histories.

See attached dummy screenshot.

A very good idea. EVE Online allows you to do this when you transfer money from your wallet to another player, or to a corporate account; the resulting log message is visible as a tooltip when you hover the mouse over the Journal entry for the transaction. It would be even more useful in SL, as Linden Dollars are freely convertible to "real money" whereas EVE ISK are not.

To clarify: I the SCRIPT idea is a good one. My input is on the blue payment dialog.

I'm sorry but I just don't see this as any kind of 'wow' idea. In fact, I would hope Linden Lab will focus their efforts on more pressing JIRA issues rather than change the interface...again.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea - far from it. In fact, it is a good idea - to a degree. Unfortunately the reason it's a 'waste of resources' to handle this "issue" is because a little adaptability to the current environment is all you really need:

The answer is pretty simple:

Let's say I did some service for you. Say, I wrote a script for you. Now, I know that a lot of these kind of 'services' are always handled complete through IMs. Well, I don't do that. I handle all my transactions 'face-to-face', but I digress.

I will box the script and drop it on the ground. Name the box with what it is and who it's for. Set it for sale with the appropriate amount. TP the customer to come get his script.

Tell him to "buy that box" and then take it.

Done.

Even if there is nothing in the box to buy. Simply paying the box will record the name of the object (the customer's name and whatever else I put) and the location, etc.

My complete view on this particular JIRA "issue" - including a particular reason I hope this idea is NOT adopted.

Seriously, I just don't see a need for this.
Again - not slamming the idea. It's a good idea. I'll reiterate that I just don't see the /NEED/.

I really like this idea. It's simple, useful for record keeping, and adds a nice personal touch to things. :-D

Might I suggest the label "Memo" for the message? That's the term used on checks, at least here in the US. The function could be llGiveMoneyWithMemo(). (LSL doesn't support optional arguments, so it would need to be a new function.)

I agree with this suggestion.

Notes would help with bookkeeping as well as testing problematic scripts/vendors.

I like this idea. Agreed that it should not be prioritized over more-pressing tasks.
