Rhiannon & Shon, are you using a Nvidia graphics driver from the 177 & 178 series? The main issues are
The workaround for 177 series drivers is to enable the Advanced Menu Ctl - Alt - D disable rendering palletized textures: rendering > features > palletized textures Ctl - Alt - F7 and then rebake Ctl - Alt - R You may need to do this everytime you login. I followed your suggestion and it seemed to help the clothing becoming a body suit issue, but my arms appear now like long, pulled out sleeves. I'll try to switch drivers. Aye, this is an Nvidia issue.
I tried your suggestion a few more times, Ella and it works. I do have to do it each time I login, but that's not a problem and at least I can wear clothes normally again! Thank you!

It looks likely that you have an NVIDIA graphics card with version 177 or 178 drivers. There are known avatar rendering issues for these driver versions:

Also when I wear a jacket it makes my pants white and like a body suit.
I've tried reinstalling SL and different versions and still doing it.
