when im on my own land i get pauses , voice goes out and all the objects on my land lose the owner name etc , all come back after a few seconds viewer stops etc , and this only happens on my own land with another av with me , will not happen when im alone. only thing i see is the ping sim bar goes way up when this happens . its like sl is loosing connection or some thing , but i cant see why it would only happen when there is another AV on my land and this happens about one a min or two when its happening

computer is a Mac book pro has both Mac 10.5 and windows XP happens on both i have a 3mb dsl and a buffalo router i never have a problem with either one , and the pauses im talking about it is like i get disconnected to SL and then it comes back voice drops out and all the items on my land disconnect too , the little bubble that has the owner info in it says waiting for info kind of thing and it comes back on again with the owner info etc , and this only happens when there is another AV on my land with me with or with out using voice, i was watching the stat window once and the sim ping bar went all the way to the right when it paused , and i never have this problem any where else but on my land .

also i notice when this is happening the frame rate is running at 40 to 70fps thats very high so some thing is wrong , and the times i do not have a problem the fps are running about 15 to 20 , its like the sl viewer is being over loaded with info or some thing

OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 8600M GT/PCI/SSE2

and note when the voice and SL pause , some times i need to wait for the voice to reconnect and its not lag , this problem only happens on my land where there is little or no lag for me, if there are 4 people on the sim it is alot, and this issue happens on the Mac OS side also, and one odd thing some times when i sign on ill see 15 to 20 FPS and sl seemes to work correctly when that happens but as im wrighting this im seeing 60+ FPS on the Stat window and if i open the Map when i see the high FPS the FPS drops to around 15 to 20 range ,close the Map and it goes back up to 60 FPS , strange.
This prob has been happening for a while , on a few different versions i have tried

Thank you Rickk for your feedback

The main issue for Mac viewer suffers from cyclic pauses/freezes/fatal hangs is VWR-7779; please add your comment and vote to that issue.

There are a few things you can try,

  • Edit > Preferences > Graphics set to Low
  • Check Custom and turn off Avatar Imposters
  • Under Hardware Options, lower your Texture Memory to no more than half your dedicated graphics memory
  • Advanced Menu (Ctl-Alt-D) > Rendering turn off Object-Object Occlusion
  • You might need to turn your bandwidth settings down in Preferences > Network if your computer is receiving more network data than it can handle.

The Map issue has been reported here VWR-9056.

Also, there was a recent announcement by Apple

MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

  • Last Modified: October 10, 2008
  • Article: TS2377

Symptoms

In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty.
