I noticed high memory use so to test this I tp-ed around to some sims with lots of objects/textures. The results:

1st try: Memory use at 1.6 GB in 20 minutes. Which left only 8MB ! on my 2GB system so i had to force-quit the client.
2nd try: Memory use at 1.4 GB in 30 minutes. Client crashes and pops up the reporter.
3rd try: Memory use at 1.5 GB in 20 minutes. Client crashes with no sign of the reporter.

I never had these memory problems with earlier versions.

hi ellla,

I do keep an eye on the memory usage. It must be my computer performance modeling background. The memory usage is actually very good on the current standard viewer 1.20.15. I'm usually around 400 mbytes, plus or minus 50 with that viewer.

With the new RC0 however, memory usage has gone up dramatically. When I posted this issue, my memory usageI was at 1 gig, which I thought was noteworthy. But later, it made it to 1.2 gigs before crashing. As others have been reporting, the crash is not invoking the error reporting to LL - so perhaps that's another problem that should be noted.

Here's my hardware details:
CPU: Intel Core Series Processor (1662 MHz)
Memory: 2039 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: Intel
Graphics Card: Intel 945GM
OpenGL Version: 1.4.0 - Build 7.14.10.4926

Minimal graphics I know, but its quite usable with 1.20.15. Not so much with the new RC0.

Note that this is a dual processor system. I do so wish SL could make good use of the two processors - and I do have multi threading in sl enabled. Alas, it does not.

this is definitely a new issue specific to 1.21.0. it ends suddenly without any error popups etc in ~20 mins to one hour of usage from startup. staying in a single region all the time. memory usage rises steadily to ~2 GB until the crash. this is on a PC with 3 GB ram, dual core, windows XP.

more detailed information: memory usage stays fairly constant if i don't anything (rising, but slowly). then i walked through the sim to another building, and it goes up with another 500 MB in minutes, then program ends.

Please see if this is better in 1.21 RC 1 - much work has been done on memory leaks for that build. Thanks!

Where is the 1.21 RC1 viewer? The download page only lists RC0.

Trying 1.21.1 and it is a great improvement memory-usage-wise. For me, it appears to start just over 200 mbytes, and increases to about 475 mbytes and holds in that neighborhood. The frame rate, which was way down in 1.21.0 is also greatly improved. Well done nya - thanks!
