Yes, specifically, I'd like to see a publicly-viewable field in World > About Land > General, which is the tab that prospective land buyers/renters are most likely to see before clicking the Buy button. The way things work now is you have to do prim voodoo to ascertain what kind of sim you're on, taking into account prim multipliers and parcel sizes. The majority of SL newbies have no idea how this stuff works.
Especially with people lying saying their sim is really a class 5 when it's a class 4. There's no way to verify this from the UI (as far as I know).
You know that silly popup that says "You are entering a region running a different sim version" that essentially means nothing but is just something more we have to click on?
Why not have a popup that says "You are entering a slow sim", which would take care of parts of all these jira issues (about land, buy land, etc), the scams and content creator worries, and also explain to users why things are running so slowly there, rather than them just saying "SL is so laggy"? I am not an SL newbie at all, as evidenced by my being able to use the Jira, LOL, but other than consistently feeling slow, I have no idea how to recognize an Openspace sim. Vlad B in the forums suggests that an icon up at the top of the screen might be a good (or alternate) idea, too.
I don't think there should be a popup or menu bar icon, many people have no issues with OpenSpace regions, I even own one for my sand box. It would get very annoying to constantly be told I was entering an OpenSpace when jumping between my regions.
The procedure to tell an OpenSpace is simple. Click the name of the region on the top of the screen, click on the objects tab, look at the simulator primitive use figure. If it's 3750 it's an openspace, if it's 15000 it's a full region. Anyone who buys land without looking at this figure is bringing it on themselves. However there are newbies around and for them adding the words "OpenSpace Region" to the buy dialog will not hurt. This blog post:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/10/27/openspace-pricing-and-policy-changes/ states that something will be added to the UI to make clear the fullsim/voidsim issue, but nothing about the Class issue. That would make this feature request half resolved or rather "Fix Pending". Should another be opened for the Class issue? |
