I would add that there should be something in About Land as well, but that's probably for a different Jira.
Unscrupulous land reseller agencies are buying these type of sims and renting them for residential & commercial with no mention of their limitations. They also state the buyer is buying the land not renting it...this practice should be stopped and the customer should be made aware of the exact nature of the land and its intended purpose BEFORE paying for it.
/me adds VWR-8770 for Wildfire.
It should say the following.
"Warning. This simulator is an openspace region. These simulators are designed for simple purposes, like scenery, and parks. They are not suitable for stores, malls, clubs, housing, or other kinds of commercial/residential use. Please see <knowledgebase link> for more info, and be sure you know what you're getting into before you buy." More and more people are being sold these and they are making content creators look badly as our scripted items barely work or takes long seconds to minutes to complete its cycle or task simply because our items are being used in an abused Openspace sim. Start letting people know what these sims limitations are so that they are not blaming SL for being laggy or content creators for bad scripting, and instead are blaming the Openspace sim as they should be.
You know that silly popup that says "You are entering a region running a different sim version" that essentially means nothing but is just something more we have to click on?
Why not have a popup that says "You are entering a slow sim", which would take care of parts of all these jira issues (about land, buy land, etc), the scams and content creator worries, and also explain to users why things are running so slowly there, rather than them just saying "SL is so laggy"? I am not an SL newbie at all, as evidenced by my being able to use the Jira, LOL, but other than consistently feeling slow, I have no idea how to recognize an Openspace sim. One thing you can do, Crystal, is turn on property lines and look at About Land for a few of the larger parcels in the region. You can sorta eyeball the math to see if it's going to add up to around 3700 or 15000..
Here's an example of this abuse:
"We are currently recycling some Class 5 65,536sqm full sims/ islands (3,750 prims) at ONLY L$25,000 and tier L$6,720/week! " How many noobs are going to understand "For Sale - FULL 65,536sqm Commercial/ Residential Class5 Island" is not what the rest of the world considers a "full sim", and is not suitable for residence or commerce? This blog post:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/10/27/openspace-pricing-and-policy-changes/ states that something will be added to the UI to make clear the fullsim/voidsim issue. That would make this feature request resolved or rather "Fix Pending". Perhaps another JIRA should be made for adding the sim class also. |

Or, at least some distinction between "buying" mainland vs. "buying" estate land.
