 Description  « Hide
When moving items from one inventory folder to another using multiple windows, the automatic drill-down and opening of folders that was probably useful when there is only one inventory window becomes an obstacle to correct operation. The window unpredictablly scrolls and pops open folders if you hesitate to make sure you are hovering over the right folder before dropping, and as a result way too often the items being moved end up in an unintended place. Worse yet, it's often not obvious which folder they've dropped into, levaing you to try to remeber what they were called to try to move them again.

We've gotta fix this.

Would it be possible to freeze an inventory window when a drag-and-drop is in progress, especially if the contents of the drop came from another window?

(I did a search to try to find a dupof for this but failed; I can't believe nobody's griped about it before.

Been griped about for a single window in VWR-7948.

This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during a batch clean-up of PJIRA issues.

Reason: for an extended length of time, this bug seems to be missing enough details (reproducible steps) for Linden Lab to import the bug and investigate. Also the last affected version of the viewer on this report is viewer 1.21 or 1.20, 1.19, or even earlier, which are versions that are no longer actively supported.

It is possible that this bug is indeed valid and should remain open-- however, Linden Lab needs the following pieces of information before it is Reopened:

To reopen, please do all of the following:

(1) It is very important to confirm that this bug still occurs in the latest official version 1.23. Please upgrade to that version by browsing to http://get.secondlife.com , and test if you can still reproduce the bug using Viewer 1.23.

(2) If so, then please Reopen this issue and BE SURE to choose the "Affects Version/s" = 1.23

(3) Also, re-describe the steps that another person can follow to experience this bug. An example of a good "recipe" for a bug report can be found here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Issue_tracker#Guidelines_for_a_bug_report

(4) Come and attend the inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to consider, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. For more information, see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage

Thank you for helping us improve Second Life!

Oh, please.

After almost a YEAR you suddenly don't have enough information?

And ONE DAY is "an extended length of time"?

After reading the description, what further information do you want?

This has been an irritation as long as I've been coming into SL. Very difficult to drag an item to a closed folder. As the submitter reports above, the inventory begins to autoscroll up and down making it a hassle to get the item to the correct destination. Best workaround is to open the folder and drag the item into the area of the folder where there are objects. I am using the RC – 1.23.4(123523).

Just a quick note- yes this is a really annoying bug!

That said, one quick work around is to pop a second inventory window open. position the view of each so that one is your current location and one is centered on your destination and then drag across. this cuts down on crazy scrolling a lot, not completely but its much easier to control if you just slide smoothly across.

@starsong-

Please read the JIRA description carefully before commenting.

When moving items from one inventory folder to another using multiple windows...

The folder-pops happen with one or two window inventory manipulations and are frustrating no matter how many inventory windows are open. I also see the Chat history tabs changing selection when dragging inventory no where near them. That's probably not related though.

Duplicate of VWR-7948

Scrolling too fast is different from opening subfolders unpredictably.

The only way this is a duplicate is as subordinate to a meta against "inventory dialog sucks".
