Might be something wrong with slurl.com, not working for me from 1.20.15 either. Tested on 1.18.5.3 also, it is not working on that version either.
Slurls seem to be working now...if a little slow.
Try again? Still not working in either FF3 or IE7, for the nightly or 1.20.
Seems with 1.21 installed it won't work on any version. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled 1.20.14 and 1.20.15 and it worked fine. Once I installed 1.21 it stopped again.
Doesn't seem to be a dupe of
Tested with release viewer
Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release) and public nightly Second Life 1.21.0 (95263) Aug 28 2008 01:39:54 (Second Life Public Nightly) on Windows XP SP3 I was not able to reproduce the issue. Location based SLurls worked correctly. Tested multiple slurl.com urls, which triggered associated secondlife:// location URLs, including http://slurl.com/secondlife/Levenhall/20/225/21/?title=Linden%20Village 1. Launch SL viewer, and log in. RESULTS NOTE I was unable to reproduce location based SLurl failures in the release or the nightly Windows builds of the Second Life viewer. If this is still failing, please reopen the issue, and provide some more information to help pin down the issue. Thanks.
Does the Beta Grid viewer, which is 1.21.0.94415, mirror the nightly enough to include it here? Because I have the beta and the normal release installed on my Vista machine and ever since I installed the Beta, slurls have stopped working.
I am installing the Preview Grid Viewer 1.21.0.94415 (Second_Life_1-21-0-94415_Beta_Setup.exe), will open the http://slurl.com/secondlife/Levenhall/20/225/21/?title=Linden%20Village
...ooookay, so I guess my config would be a good idea then (I use Firefox 2, latest version, because 3 won't run my fave extensions, could that be a problem?)
I do exactly the same, and...nada. I click the teleport now button and nothing happens. Second Life 1.21.0 (94415) Aug 14 2008 15:18:57 (Second Life Beta) You are at 260062.4, 231985.7, 86.4 in Blackmount located at sim4951.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.27.162:13000) CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1994 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3 I am now in a state where opening the http://slurl.com/secondlife/Levenhall/20/225/21/?title=Linden%20Village
Let me change the summary, since this affects more than the Public Nightly builds.
Yep, I can confirm this-I deinstalled the beta grid viewer and installed RC0, and....nothing happens when I click on a slurl link.
Alyx,
FYI, my comment that started with "I am installing the Preview Grid Viewer 1.21.0.94415.." was meant to imply that I was in the process of installing that version, because you said that was a version that was reproducing the issue for you. Thanks so much for your insistence on showing that this was an issue, because it pushed me to dig into it, after it had failed to reproduce for me. Here is some background information on why some people would have failing SLurls and others would not. There is a Windows registry key that gets created, by the SL viewer installer, that IE and FF will look at, to tell them what application and application arguments they are supposed to run when they encounter secondlife: as the URL schema of a link. FF is not windows-centric, so while it looks at the registry key, it also keeps its own "registry" of associations. It is possible to get into a situation where FF has an association to an instance of the Second Life viewer executable, that is not the most recently installed. Because of that, in FF, SLurls may continue to appear to work, in situations where you have the release (working SLurl version) of the SL viewer, and other SL viewer installs (which installed on their own, would fail.). Again, thanks for being on top of this. Slurl.com is still not working for me in 1.21.0 (95368). Here's what happens when I click the slurl above, in both IE7 and FF3:
EDIT: I just tried clicking the slurl while logged out, and it opened SL and took me there fine. Now, slurl.com is working for me again, even while logged in. Anyone else see something similar, or was it just a hiccup on my machine? After installing RC viewer 1.21.0 (95157) SLurls have stopped working for me as well. Clicking on an SLurl in either FF 3 or IE7 produces no effect. No lauching of the client, no requesters, nothing. Clicking on SLurls in the SL chat history does not work either. I experimented with the main viewer 1.20 and still could not use SLurls properly.

Take a look at my comment to Alyx regarding the Windows registry. If you have multiple versions of the SL viewer installed in different directories, you may find scenarios where location SLurls work, and don't work. It will depend on which SL viewer .exe is getting triggered by secondlife: in the web browser's protocol handler. IE on Windows will use a key in the Windows Registry. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa767743(VS.85).aspx thanks I was just using slurl in 1.20.15 succesfully when I saw that the RC was out.
Installed RC 1.21.0(95157), and slurl did not work anymore. Tried the 1.20.15 again, slurl did not work Because it looked like a setting changed with the RC installation, I decided to test if this is the case by then re-installing 1.20.15(92456). That helped, slurl worked after that in both 1.20.15(92456). and RC 1.21.0(95157). I did not try and find out what setting caused it, because for the moment the workaround is ok for me. I just installer viewer 1.21 RC1 and SLurls are working as expected again.
