Aria, Is your system a MacBook or MacBook Pro? If you log in to SL and choose Help > About Second Life from the menu, what is displayed as your graphics card? Note that MacBooks (non-Pro) use an Intel graphics chipset that isnt supported for SL. It may work, it may not, but LL doesn't suport SL on that graphics chipset.

Setting status to "Resolved/Incomplete". Change back to open when you can provide more details.

Does disabling Vertx Buffer Object (VBO) make a difference (graphics or adv.graphics options)?

Torley Linden added a comment - 19/Jul/07 10:58 AM
We really need more info, please try what Nicholaz suggested and reopen if this is still a problem.

Using iBook G4
Mac OS X 10.4.10
1.33 GHz PowerPC g4
768 MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
VRAM (Total): 32 MB

Have been using SL for a few days
Often "hangs" (see below) during teleports and now can't log in at all
When I try to connect it comes up with the sort of message "loading may appear to freeze please wait" sort of message but never returns......it started out having the last location image appears then refreshing cache then the little watch thing comes up and just stops there.....ticking away for maybe 20 minutes before I give up and force quit SL, reboot Mac and try again.....tried this maybe 5 times.... then got into preferences and set up so I could type in a teleport location on connect, tried this and now it locks on a blank screen,

Pity, been loving SL for a few days.
Is there some system files on the Mac I can clear?
I have rebooted and rebootted etc and no help
ACHING to get back into SL.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling?

I don't think this is still occurring (at least with the WindLight viewer). If I'm wrong, please reopen with new info. Thanks!

For a total freeze about 30 seconds into sl..this worked on my NEW Macbook...(not the problem with old ones) Find the "user_settings" folder under your Second Life folder that is under yourname/library/Application support/secondLife/user_settings Data. Note also you will have a folder with your Avatar's name. Don't change the settings.xml file in that folder - change the one in the user_settings folder.
  • once you have found user_settings/settings.xml. You will have to manually add the command to disable Object Occlusion to this file. The lines to add before the "</settings>" are:
o <!-Enable object culling based on occlusion (coverage) by other objects->
    o <UseOcclusion value="FALSE"/>
  • Save the setting.xml file and then try to connect to Second Life.
It worked for me like a dream!!

If it is still an issue for you using the latest RC Viewer 1.22 [and Second Life Server 1.25.6.113484] which can be downloaded from here Release Candidate Test Viewers please

  • reopen [left sidebar]
  • update the "Affects Version/s" to the correct one
  • add any other relevant details that would help LL developers fix it. Up-to-date, full details from Help > About Second Life are very important.
