 Description  « Hide
Clothing settings like changing the sleeve lengths, or how high/low trousers are, do not work.

I have tried many self-debugging techniques, such as:

Different Operating systems
Different graphics card drivers
Rebaking
Reinstalling SL
Installing a seperate SL
Clearing cache
Deleting cache by hand
Trying other clothes
Trying different clients
Using test characters
Using other accounts
Using other computers

Other people see me with the bug, but when I give them clothes I've tried on which have the bug, they do not get the same issue.

I'm almost certain this is not a client sided bug.

This also happens on my alternative account.

I'll post a picture of the test avatars, and the appearances window.

I'm having the same problem , clothing appearance sliders have ZERO effect, neither in preview nor after applied.

Other avatars at FIRST see my changes.. then see the 'wrong' settings.

I even took the same piece of clothing(a sleeveless top from a designer who gave me a Mod/Tranfer version)..
To me it always looks like it has sleeves (among other problems such as color depth, bottom length being wrong etc..)

Here's what I tried with a 2nd account i have on another PC. I tried to mix-n-match different viewers and it all ends up with the same problem no matter what viewer I use on either end. (Tried SL Standard 1.19.1(4) , OnRez and Windlight)

1) When First placed on My main Avatar
--I see sleeves
--Other PC see's sleeves

--Editing any setting shows no change on Main PC.
--I see no change
--2nd PC sees a change..

--I remove the item and re-equip it , or move out of range of the 2nd avatar and back again
--They see the ORIGINAL wrong appearance (with sleeves) .. Even though the settings do not show any change from the edited values. Editing again, causes the 2nd PC to see the change, but again only until I requip or reenter thier viewing range.

2) I placed the same clothing on the 2nd avatar.
-On main PC it looks correct (Sleeveless)
--On 2nd PC it looks correct

--If 2nd PC edits the object
--Main PC sees the incorrect object again (full sleeves) at first.. then it changes to correct values (could be load time but odd that i see a setting for the object that should never be, (ie it never had full sleeves so why do I see them at all, even for 30 seconds or so?)
--2nd PC sees the changes as they were meant to be in preview (i set half sleeves and half bottom length)

--If I give that edited object back to first avatar..
--Main PC sees the incorrect FULL sleeves and bottom again
--2nd PC sees the incorrect Full sleeves and bottom
(I verified that the settings show half sleeves and bottom as well to be sure they didn't change)

--Finally if I re-edit the same object to any new value (I took the bottom to 44% instead of the 50).
--Main PC still sees FULL sleeves and bottom
--2nd PC sees correct settings for about 30 seconds.. then back to the FULL sleeves.

I've tried the same exact steps on both the SL standard, and OnRez viewer. (I got bored after starting a few on windlight, but the first few I did also had the same results).

I'm going to try switching Graphic Drivers on my Main PC just in case, but it seems odd that a driver on the main PC could alter what my 2nd PC sees.. so doubt i'll have any results.

NOTE: This also happens with other clothing such as Pant Length (bellbottom effects are horrible, covering my shoes). Haven't tried others.. getting frustrated not understanding how one PC can affect what the other PC sees even if settings on object is correct.

UPDATE! - I FIXED MY PROBLEM
Turns out it was the Nvidia Display Drivers version 177.66 that were causing it.
I reverted back to the last WHQL drivers (Version 175.19)
My 2nd PC never got upgraded to the new drivers, so thats what gave me the hint to try to replace them.
And now I can edit things properly, and see them properly (had to do a rebake once though).

I still don't understand how drivers on MY main machine

177.79 also has this problem. 175.19 was fine for me too.

Possible duplicate of VWR-7957

My laptop has this same issue with the latest nVidia driver set (177.79) . If possible rolling back the driver set should fix the issue.

I am having similar issues after trying on a free skin yesterday. I had a shirt (modified original that came with avatar creation) that was a vest, with no sleeves. Yesterday, I put on a free skin to check out and suddenly my shirt texture extended all across my torso, everywhere, even covering my entire hands. I took it off, and the undershirt looked normal (sleeveless tank).

Now, any time I put on a shirt object, the same thing happens. The texture covers everything. And other players see the problem as well, so I'm pretty sure it's not client-side.

I've changed shape, I've changed skins, I've gone into the Advanced Menu and done the Character Male test, but nothing works. So I can't wear shirts now as they look ridiculous. I do hope this is resolved soon.

Thanks.

Same bug as VWR-7957.
Please vote for it.

This issue should not have been resolved as "Fixed".

It looks likely that you have an NVIDIA graphics card with version 177 or 178 drivers.

There are known avatar rendering issues for these driver versions:

  • VWR-7957 (Clothing skinning error on nVidia)
  • VWR-9358 (Texture rendering problem Nvidia 178.13 release drivers)
  • VWR-8261 (With some clothes, viewer renders buttocks and legs totally white)

The following workaround has been reported:

  • Enable the Advanced Menu (Ctrl-Alt-D)
  • Disable rendering of Palletized Textures (Ctrl-Alt-F7)
  • Rebake (Ctrl-Alt-R)

I'm marking this issue as a duplicate.

Please look at VWR-7957, VWR-9358 and VWR-8261 and add your comments/vote to whichever you feel most closely matches your issue.
If, you feel this is NOT the same as either of these issues, please re-open it using the link on the left, and add a comment explaining why.
