 Description  « Hide
Over the last month a frequent action randomly occurs; the bandwidth strength fluctuates but then falls to zero. The Avatar is only able to rotate on the spot. No means to communicate or interract with anything around, persons, objects appear frozen; information does not show.

Temporary internet disconnection is displayed as ; "Cannot find server" despite signal strength shown on Internet icon. Followed by blank Second Life logo indicating no connection to the net despite there is connection.

I've seen this issue too. When I look at the debug console, it's showing unable to connect messages flying by.

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 29/Aug/07 02:56 PM
Ok this is getting ridiculous now. I logon and less than a minute goes by and I freeze up. Since half-past nine pm my time (UK) I've been given moments of a few minutes and then complete freeze up followed by the "Cannot find server" message. The time now 5 minutes to eleven and I've tried logging on and it worked and now for no reason nor warning given it freezes up.

Is there anyway at all for this issue to be cleared up?

Been where vermus is, only too frequently. Had a ticket on it, been put through the hoops by LL , been told it is my fault, been told my PC is not up to their specs, been told everything except what the problem is.

Fact of life is, since the rushed introduction of voice, the stability of the grid has become an issue.

Seems quality is not in the LL vocabulary, or customer service for that matter.

stevenSDF Fisher added a comment - 03/Sep/07 01:33 AM
This is what happens when you get disconnected from SL, the Internet icon means that your computer is connected to your modem or router, but does not mean you are still able to reach SL's servers.

The problem could be anywhere between you and SL, or even your own computer.

MrNucklehead Burger added a comment - 04/Sep/07 09:32 PM
It seems Im having the same problem now for the past two days. I log in and the guy is in limbo land.
I cant move or he just fly's off into the air or the ground.
Then it tells me I have been logged off and crashes!!!
I cant communitcate with anyone or even teleport.
Im in areas without controll and are recieving messages like this below...

[20:59] Can't move object 'SmartFragment' to
{ 78.5872, 133.697, 65.3427 } in region Hyeonmoo because you are banned from the parcel.
[20:59] Can't move object 'SmartFragment' to
{ 103.362, 158.99, 65.2792 } in region Hyeonmoo because you are banned from the parcel.

I am getting very fustrated as I have asked for help and have recieved absolutly no support at all. I paid good money to have access to this game and Im contemplating quitting it all unless I get some sort of feed back or resolution.

It would not be such a big matter if we were not talking about real money being used here!!!

Can all of you affected please attach log files so our developers can have detailed info to investigate? Info on how to do that is here:

This sure does sound frustrating but we should isolate what's causing it... this sounds similar to some other issues.

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 11/Sep/07 12:03 PM
Wasn't entirely sure which of these logs you required so I sent all three to view. It's been doing again; 0 bandwidth thing. Hope this can help?

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 18/Sep/07 12:22 PM
Can something be done about this problem? It is happening yet again...

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 18/Sep/07 12:38 PM
I hope that that this will help you?

Dale Innis added a comment - 21/Sep/07 02:25 PM
I have this particular crash / hang state every few days myself. It's nicer than the Blue Screen of Death crashes because I can just kill SL and start it again and log back in and I'm fine; don't have to like power-off restart the whole computer.

On the other hand it's rather nasty because (especially if I'm say dancing so an animation is playing on me and I'm not trying to move around) it can be HARD TO NOTICE! So I'll stand there typing at people and wondering why they aren't replying for some time before I noticed that I've in fact crashed or hung or whatever it is, and then by the time I quite and log back in I've missed lots of whatever.

There may be some local TCP problem or something at the root of this, but it would be nice if the viewer would SAY SOMETHING if it hasn't had single packet from the server in ten seconds, say. I'm sure this is awfully unusual in normal operations! *8)

I have this issue too please for all that have this issue please when it happens whatch your router it will most likely reboot by itself.

Dustin Varun added a comment - 15/Oct/07 06:17 PM
its kinda annoying when suddenly you find yourself stuck in the middle of an important conversations or something like it, even more so when one suddenly logs off due to inactivity or some stupid reason. its extremely annoying and then doesn't report in the crash logger just acts as a normal log off/time out. hope something gets done soon, it seems to becoming more and more common.

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 29/Oct/07 12:39 PM
There I was using SL, engaging in a conversation when it dropped to 0 then stuttered its way back up to operating then it returns to 0 again, for the past few weeks it's only occurred if the sim crashes and once more it's occurred. Has there been any further development at all with this bug's investigation?

arianna barbarossa added a comment - 13/Dec/07 03:10 AM
Hello I am just wondering - if a fix is in the works. I have been dealing with this problem for at least a month. Everything works fine until the bandwidth suddenly drops to zero. If I tp out of my home location - it will drop.

This is very frustrating, I'm a mentor and can't tp to help anyone. Please find a fix.

Thanks

Started getting this issue about a month ago. A guaranteed time between logon and viewer 'stalling' at Packets In = 0 is between 2 to 4 minutes. Reinstalled my Win2003 router, tried different modems, tried connecting computer directly to the internet, tried using different computer. The issue is still there.
I am not proficient with the SL protocol enough to diagnose it myself, but judging from the first look in a packet sniffer, the client-server exchange is okay - that is, there IS exchange and when it says ZERO in the viewer, the packets are still going back and forth.

PLEASE do something about it?

I would raise the issue status to critical or showstopper. It's completely unplayable to me in the current state, which means 100% disruption of service. And as far as i can see, at least a dozen of people are affected. And how many of them are just silently leaving? And how many have to vote for the issue to be noticed???

Veydajar Jessop added a comment - 22/Dec/07 10:24 AM
This issue seems to be similar to one registered as #VWR-1844

Veydajar Jessop added a comment - 23/Dec/07 03:44 AM
Rolling back my network card driver, as proposed in one of the MISC-744 posts, helped eliminate the problem for me.

Uninterrupted SL uptime is 1 hour and counting, w/o any network problems, while before I couldn't stay connected for more than 3 minutes.

FYI, I'm running Vista. This bug seems like a specific OS/driver/viewer compatibility problem to me.

Related details:

Motherboard: Asus P5KR

Network driver:
Attansic L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller
Working version: 2.2.6000.0 (12.04.07) signed by WHQL
Faulty version: sorry, forgot to write down before rolling back. Dated november something.

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 29/Jan/08 05:17 AM
It's happening again.... in time with the Server code tinkering; could this be it? One moment SL works, the next 0 bandwidth registered in statistics bar. Logout, try to relog get the "SECOND LIFE" page with the message; Unable to connect to Second Life, no connection detected, please make sure you are connected and try again".
I close this window, relog come back on, statistics is showing a decline in bandwidth strength... it shoots up to a three figured number and is constantly changing but dips to a single figure.

Originally when I had this problem I was on 1Meg on my internet package, this was increased to 8megs and since then it has been working perfectly.

Could it be because of the Server Code Upgrading process?

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 20/Mar/08 02:15 PM
About two and half hours ago my Avatar froze on the spot, did not respond to any potential movement, when I went to Alter appearance the display indicated the greyish look similar to yesterday's "phenomena". When I exited the window, the scroll flashed by quickly, when I attempted to relog I gained a message; "Unable to connect Second Life, no connection detected", on finally able to relog I have found that my bandwidth is constantly in a state of flux but has twice reverted to decreasing to single figures, in particularly hovering just over 0.

I have no idea what has caused this to occur, the strength of the bandwidth rises quickly but it lingers over a singular figure after time of say five minutes by which time it comes ever closer to 0.

Is there any indication that this could be zero bandwidth trying to occur again?

Vermus Dryke added a comment - 24/Mar/08 05:23 PM
It just happened while I was working. Brand New Computer. 8 Megs worth of bandwidth Strength. Can something please be done about this bug, I tried to relog and I was presented with; SECOND LIFE default page and any attempt to access a webpage resulted in no means to open Internet Explorer.

This issue does happen temporarily when there are Grid issues with SL (these can be checked here Grid Status site http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ or as a feed on the Official Blog site http://blog.secondlife.com/) or at times with the residents internet connection.

Network connections can be tested, please see this article in Knowledge Base

Knowledge Base > Second Life Info > Second Life Software Questions > How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Topic #: 4051-4237
http://secondlife.com/support/?questionID=4237

And for Vista OS, there is a useful Net Activity gadget which can be added to the Windows Sidebar http://vista.gallery.microsoft.com/vista/SideBar.aspx?mkt=en-gb

Also here for a general speed test http://www.speedtest.net/

I too am having this issue, it's been going on for at least 3 weeks now. It happens on 3 different PC's, all which pass the SL test for recommended platform. All are running Win XP and use 3 different connections from DSL to T1.

Please fix this soon...let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Ellla McMahon added a comment - 17/Sep/08 08:51 AM
Igo, Second Life requires a constant connection to the internet for data to be uploaded and downloaded; any interuption between your computer and the Second Life servers can result in Second Life failing to respond.

It is very difficult to trace these interuptions after the event. Please check these articles in Knowledge Base for suggestions

Knowledge Base > Second Life Info > Second Life Software Questions > How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Topic #: 4051-4237
http://secondlife.com/support/?questionID=4237

"You might use a program called "WinMTR" (Windows Matt's TraceRoute) to determine if the problem is with your connection, your Internet Service Provider, or Linden Lab's network. "

There is a update in the test Viewer RC 1.21 which will 'Provide better feedback when the server connection is lost' VWR-702

Thank you

Ok,

Did the checking for packet loss, not a problem for me 0% most cases, nothing above 10%.

My firewall is not responsible, disable both software and hardware firewalls and virus protection.

Don't have more than one computer on the same connection, I do have multiple computers, each with their own connection, 1 hardwired to a T1, one hardwired to an enhanced DSL line and another wireless to enhanced DSL.

I tried the beta viewer 1.21, same thing.

The time it takes to lockup is anywhere from 5 minutes to almost an hour. So far today it is locking up every 5 minutes or so, continuously.

I thought it might something with my avi, but i went into advanced functions and used th ebasic male avi and still happens.

I had the debug console, not sure how to get it to you, but it seems to have a lot of warnings being generated and some serious errors after the viewer locks up.

Let me know how to post the debug file and if you need anything else.

Igo, please reopen this issue and post the details of one of your computers that is on a wired connection (Help > About Second Life) and comment on the graphics driver version you have and the manufacturer of the router you are using.

Please log in with the latest RC 1.21.2 and if it stops responding, before you restart Second Life, please attach your Second Life Log and Crash Report to this issue

Knowledge Base > Second Life Info > Solution Finder > Technical Issue > Where do I find my Second Life diagnostic logs? Topic #: 4051-4209
