 Description  « Hide
My friend has her head with the same color that her hair.
This is very strange because other residents see her with this bug so I don't think it's a driver issue.
She tried to clear the cache / reback texture / test character and to create a new avatar but nothing changed.

Could you please help, she really wants to play SL.

If I had to guess, I'd say she attached a hair texture to her face.

Having the exact same problem, has been going on for almost two weeks now. No amount of messing with textures, skin color, avatar shape, skins, etc, has any affect. My head, from the neck up, is colored whatever my hair color happens to be, regardless of the configuration of my hair (my avatar is normally bald).

See my previous comment. I'm now experiencing this problem, reference forum post here: http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?p=2048901

This same problem also started happening to me last week after teleporting from one sim to another. I've spent the last two days trying to figure out what happened. It seems to effect different skins slightly differently. It also seems to affect avatars with no hair differently than avatars that do have hair.

I'm not sure if this is related to this problem, but when wearing a shirt, the entire torso takes on the texture belonging to the shirt, and when wearing pants, the feet either become white with a texture that says, "top foot" and the reverse image of "top foot:, or the feet become black - depending on the pants worn.

This is an image (Rooke Head OK) of my head before any corruption. Notice that there are two eyebrows and the skin color is correct and is NOT the same color as the hair. Also notice that the eyebrows and the beard have the correct hair texture.

A shot (Gray Head Rooke) of my head after the problem started happening. Notice the pronounced uni-brow. The uni-brow cannot be modified from the Appearance Window - non of the controls have any effect on it.

A shot of my feet (Shoeless Feet). Please note that that texture shows up only when I wear a pair of Stone Washed Jeans. Other pants make the feet black. And this happens whether or not I wear any shoes - although one pair of jeans do allow one of my shoe textures to appear.

My entire torso takes on the texture of whatever shirt that I wear. This shirt demonstrates that. (Shirt Texture on Torso)

Rooke, which graphics driver version have you got ?

Also, what is your Graphics setting in SL Preferences (Low/Mid etc) and have you got any custom settings ?

Thank you

This problem went away for me, after roughly two months of 'poo head.' Coincidentally enough, the problem where wearing a jacket would make my legs from the waist down gray went away at the same time. I changed nothing on my end, no new client, no new drivers, and the problems occurred on three different machines using a variety of clients (standard, release candidate, kirstens, etc.) Between one login and the next, poof, problem gone. One other item of interest, I could grab a baked texture of my head, drop it on a prim, and see the beard/brown strangeness. This texture would then at random disappear from the prim, going to 'blank' on that side. I don't know if this is related (doubt it) but I figured I'd mention it.

Machines involved: Dell Inspiron 9300 (1.6 gig pentium M, 4 gigs ram, nvidia 6800 mobility)
Nvidia 780i MB, Intel qx9650, nVidia 8800 gtx, 4 gigs of ram
Intel DX5400 (skulltrail), dual Intel qx9775, ATI 4870, 8 gigs of ram

OSs: Microsoft Vista 32 bit and 64 bit, XP 32 bit SP3, XP 64bit SP2 (btw, Second Life runs MUCH slower under Vista)

Drivers: nVidia 9.69, 9.99, 15.08

Problem occurred on existing installs, completely clean installs, after cache clears, and all my associates/friend saw exactly the same thing, a guy with a brown head and gray legs (assuming I had a jacket on). I have no idea what hardware/software they use.

— Quoted from Ella McMahon:
Rooke, which graphics driver version have you got ?

Thank you

Ella,

I use all the default graphics settings for "High". But changing them to "Low" or anything else made no difference. More on your 1st question follows...

I wish I had seen your comment before I spent the entire week trying to determine if the problem was with a corrupted skin or shape or clothing or whatever. Everything I tried turned out to be a dead end - the corruption remained.

Yesterday (2008-08-23), I noticed on my viewer that there were other avatars that had the same problems. Out of curiosity, I asked my wife to log-in from her PC using the same viewer that I'm using, but a different nVidia card (7600GS) using drivers from a year ago.

When my wife got to the sim that I was on, we looked at the other mesh based avatars that had the corruption on my viewer, and they all looked perfectly normal on my wife's viewer - but my avatar was still corrupted...

Then it occurred to me that I had gone thru normal routine for fixing corrupted avatars - go into appearance mode, make some small change, save, then re-bake textures.

Since my wife was using the same viewer that I was - 1.20.15 (92456), I figured it had to be the drivers for the brand new nVidia GeForce 9800GT card that I had installed the week before.

When I had installed the card, I had originally installed the drivers that came with the EVGA manufacture's install disk - 175.31 (June), but wanted to make sure I had no problems and then replaced them with the latest drivers - 177.79 (July). Since I was having the corruption with the most current drivers, I decided to try back leveling the drivers and install the 175.31 (June) drivers.

Bingo! ...

I logged back into SL and went back to the sim where the other mesh based avatars had previously exhibited the corruption. All of those avatars now displayed normally on my viewer.

I still had the corruption, but as soon as I went into appearance mode, the corruption disappeared. Going into appearance mode, "touching" the corrupted body part or clothing, then saving, corrected all of my corrupted avatars.

So, I managed to find a work-around for the problem. I'm a happy camper... For now.

Ending note: When using appearance mode while using the drivers that caused the corruption, most of the appearance editing controls did NOT work at all - they had no effect whatsoever.

Thank you very much for your feedback, Rooke

The issue with the 177 series of drivers from Nvidia is being looked at by the LL developers here VWR-7957

Hopefully they will have a solution soon )

I have been having the same issue with my face color on and off for many months now. I found a temporary fix by adjusting hair color to more red, and it fixed it for a while. However, this evening, nothing I tried could fix it. I even went so far as to removing all clothing and hair settings, still no good.

I checked to see if I had the latest, which I do of the general release version. I decided to try the release candidate "Second Life 1.22.10 (112620) Feb 20 2009" and the issue dissappeared completely. I am going to wait and see if it is again, temporary, or the bug was fixed.

For anyone still having the issue, it's worth a try.
