Fix or remove rendering of megaprims in the mini-map

Created: 13/May/08 08:23 AM   Updated: 15/Oct/09 12:49 PM

 Description  « Hide
When megaprims are used in a sim, the Mini-map does not render their area correctly. For example, a 5 M high, 60 M long, 0.1 M thick wall looks like a 20 M square on the mini-map, while it should look like a very thin 60 M long line. In many cases this means that an otherwise well-behaved megaprim blots out visibility of much of the mini-map.

Requested change: Either render megaprims as taking up the correct amount of area on the mini-map, or do not render at all on the mini-map any prims that are over 10 M in any dimension.

The problem is mega prims are not officially supported in any way. Looks like discussion are happening on the future of mega prims with in linden labs. Probably a whole bunch of server changes are needed as well as viewer tweaks to make them work 100% as expected.

Saying that, this could be a open source patch if some one was annoyed enough by it and had the free time as this is just a viewer display issue on the minimap.

Dammastock shows a megaprim in the mini-map that covers about half the sim and overlaps into two neighboring sims. nobody can find it.

Any prim that shows on the minimap shows as a square.

Megaprims typically are "sized" by using profile and path cuts. The minimap doesn't show the visible dimensions of the prim; it shows the dimensions that the prim would have if it (a) was a cube, and (b) wasn't pathcut, hollowed, or profile cut.
