We all know there are major memory leaks in the SL Client.
I noticed something the last couple of days that may give a hint in tracing it down.
SL freezes; can't do anything. Screen freezes, cursor doesn't show on screen.
When I call up Windows memory manager, it shows SL at various stages of memory use, ranging from 500 MB to over a gig. Anything over 800 MB always crashes. But if the memory being used is lower... you can visibly watch the memory counting down... 500MB... 490... 475... 460... and when it gets to a certain point (point always varies)... SL continues running.
Apparently there is some kind of memory dump going on that causes SL to severely freeze while it's happening. Now it could be SL cleaning out the memory, or Windows cleaning out the memory... but whichever, it doesn't happen with any of the other programs I use (at least, not to my knowledge. No other programs freeze up like SL).
So hope this helps in tracing this down. Its' a serious problem. No telling how many thousands of crashes there are every day due to this issue.
