Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-14869
Linden Lab Internal Branch: Branch_1-20-Viewer

 Description  « Hide
The joystick settings are not preserved or saved between sessions. This means that you an spend an hour customizing joystick/spacenavigator settings, only to have them go away when you quit the viewer.

Also, I cannot find the location where the default values are stored. If I could edit a file manually to put in my preferred settings, at least this wouldn't be as bad.

Can we get this fixed? Being able to customize the settings isn't all that useful without being able to save them!

Hmm, maybe part of the wider issues people have been having trying to get settings to save under the RC.

The defaults are hard coded into the source right now, which is probably a bad thing and needs to change, but haven't bothered JIRAing it as the whole joystick panel could probably do with a makeover. While I love the Navigator, there should probably be a little effort put in to collate suitable defaults for other common devices too rather than favouring a single device, and make it a drop down selection. Then have a custom settings tickbox to access the details, in a similar way to the graphics settings, and an auto setup wizard to identify the appropriate axes and ranges if your device is not on the list.

My SN settings do persist - maybe the problem is only with some of the settings... or only for some configurations (I'm on Windows/Vista).

Also saving fine for me on OS X 10.4.11.

How to reproduce:
  • Go into the Joystick Configuration
  • Change X, Y, and Z dead zones for "Avatar" to 0.02
  • Change Yaw Scale to 4.00 (from 2.00)
  • Exit the Joystick Configuration dialog and hit APPLY, then OK.
  • Test the new settings
  • Quit SL
  • Restart SL
  • Open Joystick configuration
  • Note the settings have reverted.

I am running RC4 on Mac OS X 10.5.2.

Hmm, I spoke too soon it seems, they were saving for me before, but now they're not. Will investigate some more later.

Examining the settings file suggests they are getting saved, but they are getting wiped out by the defaults on reload.

Look for fix in RC6!
