 Description  « Hide
When running SL viewer in Japanese UI, some texts are shown in English or as Japanese texts that don't make sense. It is primarily because the Japanese version of XUI files are out of date and recent UI changes to the base (en-us) XUI files are not reflected to Japanese XUI files.

Synchronizing the Japanese translation files should fix this issue.

Thanks for reporting this Alissa. This is to be expected in this stage of the Release Candidate cycle -- with the base (en-us) files now updated in RC1, our internal translation process often takes until RC4 to be completed, reviewed, and committed.

Expect improved/additions to the Japanese, German, and Korean texts as of RC4. If you discover missing translations after that, please do update this task. I have added myself as a watcher and care about this issue.

Alissa Sabre - 17/Apr/08 07:47 AM
I updated the Japanese XUI files to syntactitally synchronized with the base (en-us) files. By "syntactically synchronized", I mean all translatable XML elements and attributes are included in ja files. I have not yet updated the actual translation texts.

Alissa Sabre - 19/Apr/08 07:42 AM
I updated my Japanese translation (xui-ja-20080419). It is compatible both with 1.20 RC1 and RC2. The LL changes against panel_speaker_controls.xml and the patch for VWR-1843 are also included.

Ramzi Linden - 25/Apr/08 05:55 PM
Improved Japanese translations from Linden Lab will be released in 1.20 RC5.

We are also conducting an internal review between RC5 to RC6 to look for any truncated strings (where widgets may need to be expanded to accommodate the Japanese string.)

Alissa Sabre - 27/Apr/08 05:06 PM
Uploaded a new version of my own Japanese translation: "xui-ja-20080428.zip".

It is synchronize with 1.20.4.85828 (in particular, it contains a translation for a newly-added alert "UnknownGPU"). It also includes a lot of random updates to the text toward (IMHO) better Japanese translation. Also included in the zip archive is "notes.txt", that contains some notes on my translation.

Ramzi Linden - 06/May/08 02:58 PM
Note that the forthcoming 1.20 RC6 will contain the finalized Japanese localizations for this viewer that Linden Lab can provide. We've repaired a number of bad truncations, especially in the Joystick Configuration window.

Alissa, this comment in your notes.txt is especially helpful:

"An identical English phrases apperaring in a same context and occuring close locations on UI should be translated into an identical Japanese phrases. Surprisingly, Linden's (or Linden's contractors'?) translation does not follow this, and the resulting sentences are extremely confusing because a same thing is translated into totally different phrase..."
>> if you could identify specific floaters/places where this occurs in the UI (and note the 2 different phrases), please DO file those as bugs and I will make every effort to improve them in future Release Candidates.

Alissa Sabre - 10/May/08 09:56 PM
I produced a yet another set of Japanese UI files. xui-ja-20080511.zip. It is synchronized with 1.20.6 viewer.

Ramzi, I can produce list of problems. Do you want just several examples or a complete list of the cases?
