 Description  « Hide
Viewer goes through the login process and just as it gets to the end of "Loading World..." the viewer crashes, sending a crash log. I never see a rendered world. I do not know what is causing it. I've uninstalled the normal client, rebooted, uninstalled the RC client, rebooted, deleted cache folder, installed RC client and still it crashes to desktop.

I'm having the exact same issue:

CPU: Intel Pentiume 4 CPU 2.66 GHz
Memory: 2.00 GB RAM
OS Version: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Graphics Card Vendor: nVidia
Graphics Card: GeForce 7800 GS

I'm having the exact same problem - log in, a fraction of a second later - crash to desktop.

I've had to revert to the 'standard' client - no more RC for me - crashcrashcrashcrash just after login (please see the half dozen or so crashlogs autosent - hopefully you'll be able to see what's going on). Bottom line: This latest RC puts me dead in the water. It just doesn't run.

For the record, I run a tri-monitor setup - a ProView 22″ widescreen as primary and an Acer 19″ as secondary on a GeForce 7800 GS, and a third monitor (another 19″ Acer) on a Radeon 7000 PCI.

Dual-Xeon Dell Precision 450 Workstation, 3GB RAM, info from 'Help-> About Second Life' follows:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood Xeon (2392 MHz)
Memory: 3072 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 7800 GS/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2

I was getting this for a little while....
I turned graphics to low..
logged in just fine..
turned on bump mapping..
Crashed again until I turned it off.

2GB RAM

I was using 1.20.1 fine for the few days it was available...no crashes or big problems whatsoever. But this new one 1.20.2 crashes immediately on startup (exactly as outlined in the description). Before running the new one I trashed my library application support user files (b/c I knew there was a problem with settings sticking so I did this just to be safe)

For me the crashes started with 1.20.1. About once an hour. But with 1.20.2 I crash from zero to 15 seconds after I come in.

EDIT: Sorry, this worked for me on a slightly different issue (crashing /before/ even being able to load SL)

Try this:
Set resolution to 800x600,
Try to load SL. If it loads, un-fullscreen, and resize the window to be SMALLER
Change resolution back, close second life, open it again, re-resize window back.

Worked for me, seemed like a weird fix though.

Same here. Graphics set to max (ultra) : crash on login, graphics set to recommended (high) : no more crash

Crash on login if I have bump mapping turned on
Turn off bump mapping and I can log in even if everything else is set to ultra.
I can turn on bump mapping while in-world.. but not before logging in.
However I crash more often with bump mapping turned on.

Exactly the same on the Mac here, so it is not nVidia or ATI or OS related.

Still crashing on login with the RC(3?). Many crash logs sent. See my above entry for system specs.
