 Description  « Hide
When moving my avatar, or using camera controls, or if any object (including another avatar) is behind my avatar, the camera view will "float" around - panning slowly. When I am editing the placement of an object, the outline moves before the prim appears to, and the camera view will sometimes rotate around the object.

I am noticing several people have reported various camera-related issues here (VWR-6337, VWR-6373, and VWR-6368 seem to be conveying what I tried to)

Try this:
Go to Preferences:Input&Camera
Set Camera Smoothing to zero

Pygar Bu added a comment - 14/Apr/08 09:03 AM
Thanks, Rachel! That does help with the general drift.

The problems with outlines in edit still persist, so I will be doing my building in the regular client for the time being.

I tried to fiddle with the preferences settings, and camera smoothing only seemed to adjust how sluggish or responsive my zooming the camera was. set to 0 and I could move the camera freely. Set it to 9 and it was like swimming against the current... It did not fix a few issues I've been noticing that relate to this (as far as I can see).

Outlines on selected objects float around when I pan the camera or zoom. It's like they're not bound to the object, it makes checking seams a little painful for me.

Also, beacons shift when I pan the camera or move around. This makes beacons a little silly because if I'm using the beacon, I'm usually panning around or zooming to find the source. Hard to do when the centerpoint is always bouncing around!

Outlines in edit mode are VWR-6244

Its lag that causes this, in high lag it'll take longer for your camera to come to rest as the FPS tries to catch up. Do as suggested by Rachel.

I don't think this issue is closed. Setting camera smoothing to 0 helps a lot, but does not solve the problem.
Related to VWR-5477.

It looks like the camera selection tool is working in 2D, instead of 3D.
For example, you ALT-Click on an object and try paning around. You will not pan around the object, you pan around your screen, like the object is attached to a HUD.

I haven't used SL in Windows for a long time because of this. In Linux, NONE of the versions so far presented me with this bug. Now I need to use Windows for creating vídeos, but this is unacceptable!

ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 here, Dell L131 Notebook.

Royer, do you still have this issue in RC 1.21.3 ? http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php Test Viewers > Release Candidate Viewers

There have been some improvements to the camera action, please see release notes http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.21#Known_Issues_for_RC3

Also in issue VWR-8764 Emily Hyun - 25/Sep/08 11:10 PM comments
"Ok, this problem is resolved for me now with the most recent GeForce drivers (178.13) "

Please check you have the latest graphics drivers by either going to your manufacturer's site or by checking here

Thank you

Yes, Ellla, I'm always using the latest ATI driver and SL RC. Although I can't use the Windows viewer for much, I do get in once each new version of the Viewer and ATI driver to compare with the Linux version. I just never tested the CamSmoothness=0 before.

I haven't noticed any performance issues with the camera, like in VWR-8764.

I just made sure and tested with and without shaders, disabled VBO and Joystick to make sure.
Same thing. Camera delay also seems to help with 0, but the fact is each time I do an Alt-Click I get a different result. I get different results clicking on diferent colors of the same texture. Some textures, espcially transparent ones make the camera go wild.

Let me know if you need anymore details!

PS: I did test with an external USB mouse also (besides my touchpad).

I think this might be a problema with graphics drivers. Since the last RC update, which coincided with the new ATI 8.10 Catalyst Drivers, the camera is 100% working!
Today I tried the Release 1.20.17, and it works perfectly also.

Hope this helps!

This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during a batch clean-up of PJIRA issues.

Reason: for an extended length of time, this bug seems to be missing enough details (reproducible steps) for Linden Lab to import the bug and investigate. Also the last affected version of the viewer on this report is viewer 1.21 or 1.20, 1.19, or even earlier, which are versions that are no longer actively supported.

It is possible that this bug is indeed valid and should remain open-- however, Linden Lab needs the following pieces of information before it is Reopened:

To reopen, please do all of the following:

(1) It is very important to confirm that this bug still occurs in the latest official version 1.23. Please upgrade to that version by browsing to http://get.secondlife.com , and test if you can still reproduce the bug using Viewer 1.23.

(2) If so, then please Reopen this issue and BE SURE to choose the "Affects Version/s" = 1.23

(3) Also, re-describe the steps that another person can follow to experience this bug. An example of a good "recipe" for a bug report can be found here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Issue_tracker#Guidelines_for_a_bug_report

(4) Come and attend the inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to consider, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. For more information, see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage

Thank you for helping us improve Second Life!
