Seems RenderGlowIterations and/or RenderGlowStrength for some people get set too high after installing and can cause this. These can be changed under Advanced->Default Settings and clicking Reset to default (2 and 0.350) usually fixes it.
The photographs show the same scene under the same conditions, (the default), one is the 1.19.1 (4) release candidate, the other is the 1.19. 1 (4) current viewer. This is not a settings problem I think, although setting the iterations to zero removes the 'overexposed' look. Thanks for your comment. _

I have played around with the debug settings, and I have managed to find a setting that restores my experience to its former glory. Thanks for your input on this Harleen. I'll mark it resolved, I think. _
The issue turns out to be one of settings for the renderglow function. It is sometimes altered from the default setting on installation, but can be manually reset using the debug menu.
