Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-13611
Linden Lab Internal Branch: Branch_1-20-Viewer-2

 Description  « Hide
When taking photos (snapshot to disk) of a custom size larger than the screen size, the image gets cut.
The Size of the file is correct, but only 1/4 of the image is showing (with Width and Height set to roughly 2 times screen size).
I have been using the Snapshot to Disk in this manner for some time as it makes post processing much easier.
the example below is an image take with the Snapshot Custom size at 2304X 1628
my moniter resolution is 1152 X 864

The attached image is scaled down and converted to jpg to conserve space.

I tried to find somthing that would help me out in the viewer on the very likely chance that I am missing a setting. If I did indeed miss a setting, I appologize in advance!

I'm having the 3/4 black issue as well, with the following differences:
  • It only happens when I use the hotkey
  • It's happening in standard sizes, 1600x1200 and 1280x1024
  • My graphics slider is set to Ultra

Same issue experienced

"Take Snapshot" with the interface open saves the full image at whatever resolution selected

"Snapshot to disk" or shortcut of " CTRL-' " saves only the lower quadrant at any resolution higher than screen rez.

Same problem here, on both graphics cards:

Geforce XFX 6600 GTS
Sapphire Radeon X600Pro

This goes for any snapshot above 1600x1200px size. Cause of the nature of what I do in SL, I would love to mark this 'critical' though. Also I still have 'breaches' in the snapshots when there is either water or sky involved. And example can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vintfalken/2409267377/ .

Taken this morning - custom size of 3380x2000. Image looked fine in viewer before snapping.

I'm having the same sort of problem on my Nvidia Nforce 8600GT.

Took some pictures last night in Windlight. Save to hard drive, (compress images, high-rez snaps enabled at dimensions 3000x1941 or 1948, with aspect ratio checked) but when I went in to check on them, I only had a quarter of each picture there. The rest of the image itself would be blank.

I would also like to point out that when I tried to replicate the problem, I had screenshot _001 appear on my hard disk as well as another file: screenshot_001.j2c

What on earth is a .jtc file??

I'd love to attach a screenshot of what I had, except the Jira appears to be having its own issues.

Please mark this "CRITICAL" immediately.

screenshot of the fun new .j2c file and the preview image is the shot I had attempted to take in the first place.

I am also having the same problem when I try and take a snapshot larger than the screen size. Only a quarter of the image shows up and the rest is black. I have a Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT OC

Please fix this as soon as possible!

Similar issue using Ctrl-`/High-res Snapshot, except the texture colors smear across the bottom right.

Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.

I posted a related issue some time ago, the problem is quite similar, and just happens to me in the Ctrl+` option when selected "Hi-Res snapshot to disc" in the advanced menu.

i am having the same proplem as this i had tried everything unmarked the high rez and used the costum compressed it and nothing worked always happend when i was doing bigger size then 1600 + 1200 and i never use shortcuts options. If i unmark the constrains proportions option then it works for me and i get the full size snap as i have set out but dont get it with it marked . this only started with this new viewer and never has been a proplem before .

There's another way in which hi-res snapshots are broken in 1.20 RC6 - maybe earlier RCs too - they're not hi-res!!

If i check hi-res snapshots to disk in the advanced menu and take a snap in RC6, the pixel dimensions of the resulting snap will be as huge as they should, but the resolution will not. It looks as if the viewer took the snap at the screen resolution and simply scaled it up, which isn't how it should work. By comparison, a hi-res snap taken in 1.19.1 will be much sharper and can take a bit of zooming in with no blockiness.

Edit: Similar issue still in RC7.

Come on Lindens, this has been for a month, at least ASSIGN it. This is ridiculous.

Torley Linden added a comment - 27/May/08 03:39 PM
There's confusion here because there was an earlier bug that was fixed internally but that status wasn't updated publicly (ugh). There may be a regression or another bug more recently reported – sorry for the tardiness on this, I'll ask the Lindens who'd know more to check this.

Vint Falken added a comment - 27/May/08 05:24 PM
Tenshi, are you still suffering from this 3/4th of my screen is f*cked up, or do you suffer from the new feature 'lovely black lines in snapshot'?

Torley, this was indeed solved for me. But in the latest RC (8) a new bug arrised:

If I shoot anything above the size my screen is set to, I get ugly blacks stripes. If I'm unlucky, even in the size my screen is set to, I have an ugly black stripe on the left side of the snapshot.

I'll attach two new files demonstrating this. (Assuming this issue is related, feel free to delete comment and photographs if not.)

Workaround - Shoot in low resolution (wheeei! no! no!) or get off the RC (no! no!)

PS. This happens in depth shots also.

Tenshi Vielle added a comment - 27/May/08 05:30 PM
Thanks Torley.

Vint, I'm not sure, honestly. After I was able to reproduce this problem 2, 3, 4 times, I basically gave up using the Linden Lab viewer until it's fixed. I'd love to take Windlight screenshots, but I need that higher rez. I've been using OnRez and avoiding Windlight.

That's pretty icky though, Vint. Stripes? Shudder.

Ramzi Linden added a comment - 30/May/08 03:12 PM
Thanks again for reporting this. We are investigating the issue and testing a possible fix.
Also, I am updating the Summary to be slightly more specific about the problem being reported.
(was: Full snapshots not complete)

Ramzi Linden added a comment - 06/Jun/08 11:59 AM
In the Release Candidate 1.20.9.88890 we have attempted a fix to this issue. After the fix, we were unable to reproduce this on a Mac or Windows using an ATI card.

As I review the environments listed above in comments, it seems like all of them are Windows and using either NVIDIA or ATI.

Please use RC9 and can you update here in comments if the behavior has improved or is changed in RC9? If it has changed, please do reindicate what graphics card you are using (from Help>About Second Life). Thanks!

Vint Falken added a comment - 06/Jun/08 06:51 PM
Fixed for moi on RC9 (i was suffering from the black stripes). I think that definitely falls under 'improved'. (I only did a quick test on colour snapshot though.)

XFX 6600 GTS.
Windows XP

Thankjoe!

PS. Would you now please fix glow on the non-RC so I can actually see there and am not always forced to use the RC?
PPS. Is there anything besides NVIDIA and ATI?!

Nea Fredriksson added a comment - 08/Jun/08 03:40 AM - edited
Works for me in RC9. I didn't have the partial snapshot issue, just that hi-res snaps were not actually taken in a higher resolution. I have an ATI Radeon X800 Pro.

Ramzi Linden added a comment - 16/Jun/08 09:05 AM
The previous comments suggest that this issue is resolved in RC9 and RC10?

Please reopen if this is incorrect, and provide more detail as to what unexpected behavior of the resulting snapshot occurs in RC10.
