I have been in Second Life nearly a year and in all that time I have been used to two things regarding IM messages - the intrusive but at times very useful DING! DING! to tell you of an incoming new IM; and the flashing, easy-to-see IM tab in open IMs that told you when or if someone had replied to your last message (extremely useful when - like any mentor - you may have many IM tabs open at once).
Now the flashing tabs have been removed and i find I am overrun and becoming very very tired. I have MS in RL and now that I have to check and recheck every single IM tab to see if anyone has replied to me, I just cannot cope any more. It really is that bad. I just cannot imagine why on earth this was changed in the first place. It is such an essential tool.
Someone came up with a (temporary, I hope) workaround : I can change the ButtonFlashCount to 9999 and the ButtonFlashRate to 6 Hz, and it is better than nothing, but because the flashing tab is such a simialr colour to the non-flashing tab, it is STILL harder to see than before, and is still causing me distress and weariness. It is simply the single most negative impact of any individual feature change in all my time in Second Life.
I am BEGGING LL to reinstate what was there before. This is really really bad right now, I cannot function and it is making me - quite literally - ill, as I have many IM tabs open in order to function as a mentor and just cannot go on and on continually checking each one. Amber Linden gave me a talking-to recently and told me to rest from mentor duties as and when I need to, to protect my health - good advice and I try to follow it. But things like this just add to all our burdens, and for what? No good reason I can possibly see, or imagine.
