 Description  « Hide
After installing the new viewer 1.19.1.4 this morning - all avatars are invisible in my view, even my own! The only thing I can see are attachments like prim hair! I tried re-installing but that didn't help. I don't have an older version of the viewer and I don't see one available for download either.

Try clearing your cache (Edit->Preferences->Network->Clear Cache) and re-logging.

This isn't a clearing the cache or relogging problem, I tried that before posting this! I've also completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the viewer. Same results. So I downloaded the "dazzle" version of the viewer. I can see avatars with that viewer. Of course, it has it's own share of problems, like the contact list in a perpetual "waiting" state.

I can jump back and forth between viewers - dazzle works, but with 1.19.1.4 no avatars.

I thought I had the latest ATI device driver but I didn't! I just bought this graphics card last week and the driver said version 8.3 something, and the ATI website says the latest is 8.3

However, if you actually download the driver from the website and install it, it's version 8.471 !!!

Working well now, woo hoo!

All of the avatars are invisible, except my own, on my display when I switched to 1.19.1.4. As the previous user indicated, all the attachments seem to be visible, but not the avatars. I have an older machine with NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 running Windows XP. The driver is the latest, as verified by the NVIDIA autoscan. I switched back to 1.19.0.5 and the avatars are visible again.

I get the same version for the Driver Package:

Driver Packaging Version 8.471-080225a1-059746C-ATI

But the Catalyst Version remains 08.3 as of 24 hours ago, at least, when I DL'd and installed it. (Feeling like I ducked several bullets waiting until now to update). Though please refer to VWR-6104 to confirm or disprove any possible linkage that might remain between crashiness and having VBO enabled under Catalyst 08.3 with the driver package as listed and OpenGL Version 6.14.10.7412 (which may also show in the About SecondLife windows as OpenGL Version: 2.1.7412 Release). Confusing enough? Me need sleep.

I too have a problem with Avatars not rendering, or it usually isn't all of them. Will even have avatars that were previously visible become invisible.

Have disabled Avatar imposters, did not fix issue, tried improving avatar quality, also no effect. Runnin Mac OS X 10.5.2

I have linked this as a dupe to my entry, which contains a ton of information regarding the problem.

Please go to VWR-5948 to see the full description plus workarounds. Several new discoveries and observations have been made (though no Linden assignment yet sigh)

@Kettu - can you provide us with you settings files to help us investigate this? If you attach them, we'll grab 'em. It'd be really a big help.

thanks

I have the same issue under RC 1.20, ATI RADEON HD3870. I attach my settings file.

I have a fujitsu laptop n6460, using ATI Mobility Radeon X2600HD with latest ATI drivers just installed. Every other app works perfectly. Hardware OpenGL is not included in the laptop drivers, so I installed the Mod Pack with catalyst center, and applications that use OpenGL now work great.

But avatars do not render and basically this makes second life useless. I uninstalled completely second life, and installed again with same results.
With previous secondlife viewer it worked great.

The attached screen capture is what I see. No avatars, just props like hair and shoes.

Some residents are reporting this phenomenon also happening when they upgrade to 1.20. We are asking them in support to add their information here.

I've been having this issue in 1.20 as well. I find it helps to zoom in on the person who is invisible, as they then rez, sometimes greyed out, but other times, their clothing will just rez right there and then. I also turned off avatar imposters, as that actually caused people to be invisible as well, for some odd reason.

Info:
Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1999 MHz)
Memory: 1022 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 7500 LE/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2
LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.16938 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.13_0000000000)

And my graphics settings are as follows:

Run Second Life in a Window - 1122x871.

Quality and Performance: Mid.

Bump Map/Shiney: On
Basic Shaders: On
Atmospheric Shaders: On
Water Reflections: On

Reflection Detail: All avatars and Objects

Avatar Rendering:

Avatar Imposters - Off
Hardware Skinning - On
Avatar Cloth - On

Draw Distance - 64m
Max Particle Count - 512
Post Process Quality - Low.

Mesh Detail:
Objects: Mid
Flexi Prims: High
Trees: Mid
Avatars: Mid
Terrain: Low
Sky: Low

Lighting detail: Nearby Local Lights.

I tend to keep my settings turned down fairly low as my computer does slow down after a while of using SL, and keeping minimum settings means that it doesn't slow down immediately as soon as I log in. : )

wilwit hax's original problem was due to older ati drivers. For new issues, please add comments here: VWR-9137
