I'm confused by your environment. Are you making a 3rd party viewer?
That is the last part of the bottom box in the About Second Life panel.
Oooh, okay. Never noticed that before.
Rita, can you list what version you're using and the full environment please? oups, this was the wrong box!
Environment is filled in correctly now. Thank you all for tellng me. Also, please be sure you have crash logger enabled. You need to go into your prefs and enable it and set it to send reports automatically. Is that set up correctly? Also, can you provide steps or a repro of what you're doing when it crashes or how you get SL into a crashing state? That would help.
thanks Hi Arin,
thank you for taking time, to view this item. Yes, the crash-logger is and was enabled. The crash reports going through are even fewer. The crash report showing me a final "done!" is in about 0.05% of all crashes I experience. Rita Are you crashing at launch:? Steps or context would be really helpful here.
thanks Yes, I crash at launch as well. But no more often than at every other occasion.
These crashes have nothing in common, but the fact, that all residents suffer from them. How often I see them just dissappear on every occaion: while chatting, while IM-exchanging, on attending classes,... Nobody can say who is the next to crash. Usually we do not file bug-reports, because we have not the slightest idea, "why" crashed again. So: What to do? I am rl programmer for Delphi. In Delphi I would say: try
This message the resident can read and copy it into Jira. Here comes a good example.
The average I am online at this place is about 30-120 seconds. Often enough I crash on login there and sometimes I have some seconds more. Everytime SL just "gone off the screen" without any hint. Teleporting to a different sim helps. Try updating your OpenGL version to 2.1? Long shot but worth a try. and do you have the latest drivers for the GeForce 6600??
me too,and ive been logging out after the 3.tp,every day the same.the crashes too,its a shame.
@Rita, what place are you crashing at? I can't tell from your comment. and have you updated your drivers as mentioned by Soap? Also, a caution: Nvidia updates their english language drivers first and then ports the changes outward. You might find that the current version of your region's drivers aren't as uptodate as the english language version are.
@Bonnie - can you provide your hardware config, and the versions of SL in which you're seeing the problem? thanks Aric, Soap,
at my computer are about 100 programs running, half of them English, many of the graphic or video. The 99 other programs do not crash every some minutes, like SL in recent weeks. And I see so many avatars crashing inworld as well since the last 2 SL updates. @ Arin: this happens in many regions: in some very often, in others not that often. @Arin, LindenLab: In recent times in about 20% of my crashes I see the crash logger again. So another idea: Let us save the content of the error reports to attach it to our Jira-Postings. Rita, if crash logger is enabled, it emails us the crash log. You can also grab them out of your logs folder and attach them if you'd like. Many others do this. It would help us ALOT.
thanks Hi Aric,
may be I found the reason, why I see the crash-logger so rarely. I usually do not log in by clicking the icon, but with: This way of login seems not to send crash-reports. =================== And you say, there is a file on my disk where the log is written to? I did not know that! Let me search: Sincerey, yep, please attach both logs. I'm interested in why you're not sending crash reports automatically when you log in from command line. I'll follow up on that once you attach crash reports.
thanks! I logged in again at 11:53 by prompt line and did not see any message which says a crash report would have been sent.
Check the logs, im guessing because I dont have time right now to actully read your uplods, but im guessing that there is something in there about packets? If so id look to linden about packet handeling issues... It seems to be a recant huge issue
It's doing the same for me, though a litte bit different.
On my computer, the window doesn't vanish. SL just hangs. When I try to resize the window, it's like the stuff that was in the window doesn't move, leaving white space as a resize more... it's hard to explain. >_< Is my issue different enough to warrent a seperate issue? Please fix this. I haven't logged on in some time and would like to check up on my avatar. Trouble is.. I can't even log in. SL hangs when I try to. Unfortunately, all I can really say is "me too" and raise my hand. I'll put in my computer specs below. I don't seem to be doing it as often as Rosen and Rita however, but when I crash it's just gone. It all fades, no crash logger, just gone. If I restart, SL did seem to know I'd left as it's still doing the logout process from whatever region I was in.
I have gotten some few crashes where the crash logger does work. Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release) CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2493 MHz) This has happened to me too MANY times. SL just crashes and closes without warning. SL used to crash so often it would almost be 5 minutes logged in and then I'd crash. I'm still crashing but less often because I lowered the texture memory from 512 to 128 mb. SL looks really crappy right now with that setting but it's what I have to do to stay logged in.
This will not help you, but perhaps it helps Aric:
For me the troubles are over with version 1.20.17. With version 20.17 the thing just works. This is the info I can give you:
So to my mind: Good luck Arin and to all of you suffereing still! Rita oddly enough i also have the same problem i can't seem to handle more then 10 minutes before i shut down with no reason and not just second life but the full computer.
I thought i had a virues so i
and still i seem to have the same issue what i find odd is i all so seem to have the same graphics card as you all and issues
has anyone found these "BUGS" yet? have had same problems dosnt happen all the time . may work fine and then all of a sudden happens and cant even get loged in .
system has gotten worse the past week or so thanks for looking into this Oz::
So sorry to hear that! My problems at worst times was this: SL crashed after 20 seconds. Not even my inventory loaded. I stopped playing. The only thing I can tell you: MAY BE the problem has something to do with communication speed and display. Then you maximize it again. and to add: Good luck! Rita Played with this some today looking at the bandwith and fps under stastistics today and noticed crash occured when bandwith keep dipping to below 40 or so. When i checked under preferences the network tab noticed the bandwith setting was set to 500 bandwith . while i was doing this i locked again as i have several times couldnt move only turn . I changed the bandwith setting to 200 and hit apply BINGO that unfroze me and was able to work fine from that point on. ive played with that some over the past hour and can get it up to around 400 and dosnt lock. not sure if this is a fix or a help in figureing out whats going on . i know my speed readings on my cable modem runs in the 6800 kbps rage most of the time but the bandwith on my viewer keeps moving from very low numbers 20 up to 400 or some. So if your having this prob can try setting your bandwith under preferences network tab down to a point were you dont lock . Good luck just wanted to pass this on as a possable help on both sides of the problem .
well work today didnt pan out tonight crashed multiple times so many i couldnt count them . always the same bandwith meter moving all around and then locks at 0 entire time the fps is good 15 to 40 . even tried lowering the bandwith setting under pref to 50 . so not sure what was different tonight except mayme more on sl like 67k were today it was only around 60k any help with this prob would be much appreciated cant live in sl this way .
Been crashing so many times lately that I finally crawled my way here. Ever since the current Main Viewer was realesed I have had problems. I can use it once after I dowload it. Then I have to uninstall and reinstall. That got old real quick, so I opted for the RC and have been playing swimmingly till the last 2 RC's, this last one even worse. No warning, no similar events unless you count just standing there but never in the same place, I will get a "DING" signifying that I have have crashed and havent been told just yet with just enough time to expel expletives to my friends on voice before the quit option appears. When I wait, mind you I have to or my account won't be available for sometime longer, my voice and groups are gone. OH YES AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE ABSENCE OF A CRASH LOGGER.
But as I and my friends say daily, "I hate SL, see you tomorrow!!" Second Life 1.22.7 (108773) Jan 23 2009 19:27:16 (Second Life Release Candidate) CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1600 MHz) Very interesting. I've been experiencing near the exact same problem. I am currently running a home brew viewer, but it would still happen even on the Official Release Candidate.
• Whilst in the midst of some action, be it scripting, typing, anything really, the viewer just vanishes, no lag or delay from full operation t o absolutely no operation at all. My system doesn't register that it was quit unexpectedly, so it must be something internal. It has happened to groups of people. When it does, teleporting to a region NOT directly connected to the problem region seems to help. And like Rita, I get absolutely no indications that there's been a crash, except for the fact that it happened. I'm running the latest version of my OS, Mac OS v10.5.6, and the fact that I'm running a completely different client indicates that it's probably not a problem with the client, but an even deeper internal problem, possibly with some internal server or Region OS. I too have this problem with All official client and All non official clients, i get 5 minutes to 15 minutes before crashing, with no crash log appearing, i seem to witness a slight freeze in second life, then after this freeze by approx 10seconds to 30 seconds SL finally closes and no crash report comes up when i do have it enabled. I can barely use SL right now because of this. It does seem to be an internal issue, very rare days i will actually be able to go about without crashing, but 95% of the time i have this serious issue on my fully updated and optimally running machine. The Greenlife Emerald client lasts a slight bit longer, but doesnt go any further. I also witness broken polygons which attach to the centre of the screen. Even still these should not be causing the crash, all my symptoms are exact to everyone elses comments.
ATI Radeon x1950 series with 512mb vram Further note, this has started happening even though i haven't patched in sometime, but still doesnt matter even if i have patched. I suspect this may have something to do with the SL server's themselves that may be sending us data irregular from normal causing the cilent to confuse and stall out.
More updates, ill try to provide more info the more i analyze how it closes. SL seems to close out far quicker when more people are around.
Graphically i get 60fps almost all the time so its not in that area. I could stay on SL between 15mins-1hour when i am on my own in the sim/area. But when in a sim such as a night club with more than 20 people around me. It closes far quicker around the 2mins-10mins marker. Could what be closing us with no crash logger have to do with the information the server sends us about other peoples avatars or their locations? could even be bad data. I have been experiencing constant crash to desktop problems since May of this year.
It does NOT occur while I am in a crowded, heavily used sim. In fact it is perfectly random in its occurrence. Most often it happens while I am alone in a Sim; and not in Mouse Look. It happens once every 30 - 40 minutes, usually while I am in a sim running the CCS Combat System while NOT in Mouse Look view. I have never had it happen in any Sim that is not running the CCS. I've spoken with some of the GM's, and the developer of CCS and we're pretty sure it is not the cause. It also happens on multiple Viewer platforms, including the standard Linden Viewer, the Kirstens Viewer, and Boy Lanes CoolViewer. I've not yet tested with any others. when it happens, I got no errors, no messages, no crash logs, nothing listed in windows Event Log or Event Viewer... SL just, automatically closes, all by itself. Crashes straight to Windows Desk Top and I can not log back in for about 3 - 5 minutes because SL is still trying to log my AV out of the region from which I crashed. My SL Crash logger is active, but it never does anything. My system Specs: AMD Phenom II x4 940 Black Edition presently at 3000mhz; have tested at 3800mhz. My Bandwidth settings on my Viewers are usually set to around 500, or lower; with View/Draw distance usually set to 256 which seems to be the "sweet spot" for my video cards. I HAVE tested with SLI enabled, and without SLI enabled. I still experiences the Crashes either way. All my drivers are at present up to date as far as I am aware, and I'll get my "Environment" data posted later, as I do not have access to it at present. |
