REPRO
1. Input Some text in chat
2. select the text
3. turn Japanese IME on
4. type new text

Observed:
new text is placed before or after selected text
Expected:
selected text is replaced by new text

The issue is also in 1.19.0(5) released viewer.

I believe this bug is caused by my patch to fix VWR-3410. I'm now working on this.

I produced a patch, VWR-5717-20080320.patch, to fix the issue.

This patch is compatible with 1.19.0(5), 1.19.1 RC0, 1.19.1 RC1, and 1.19.1 r82629 source files.

This issue is still in 1.20 RC1 (84760) viewer.

I have not tested the compatibility of my patch with 1.20, though.

Note there is a useful screenshot or alternately worded repro in the duplicate task VWR-7171.

This issue has occur only when inputting non Latin-1 characters by using helper application like IME.
Then I wish to add tagging the component of "Internationalization".
