Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-11716

 Description  « Hide
I will see if I can get a crash report, though I am also having some weird camera movements. One is if I am in mouselook, it randomly faces my avatar east, and locks the camera target. Cannot look up, down, left, or right.

Out of mouselook, with camera following behind the avatar, it will sometimes force me to look down, and right over my head, locking the camera there.

With camera not following, it will sometimes make my avatar look east, or make my FOV go to somewhere close to 0, turning my screen black, but wont happen when I move the camera.

Other times I have my chat bar dissapear, and chat history, and cannot come back until I restart, again random occorance... but seems to be happening frequently

Attached a log. The "Avatars turning east" thing happened just now. To someone elses avatar that was sitting down, it flashed around, also turned me east. Might be my client. I hope the log helps, there are plentiful amounts of warnings it seems in there.

I am unable to reproduce this. Do you have a specific repro that works every time?

Wolf Seisenbacher added a comment - 11/Mar/08 11:14 PM
I do not have a specific action that causes this every time. It appears to be random. In fact, if I am just idling it happens the most. here is what I have set:

Away on Idle = OFF
Graphics = FULL (All bars maxed, Anisotropic filtering along with VBO)
Disable Camera Constraints = ON
Limit Select Distance = OFF

Mainly I spend most of my time at 600m in the sky, It might be linked to being that high as well, at least the cameras.

My way I face during login to my home location is east, directly. So maybe this also has something to do with it.

I will see if I can try to get a series of actions that causes it every time. I will pay close attention to movements. Most of the time it is idling and chatting that causes the camera movements. The crashes might be due to the memory leak, or camera movements being freaking out.

Uploaded a picture of the avatar east glitch. This one just happened. Appears to be after 1 or 2 minutes of idling, it will do this. This is what happens in the outside view when tracking avatar, only happens when stationary, not moving avatar or camera. Can happen during typing

Could not attach video, posted video on my webpage, here is a direct link to it http://musclecartuners.net/videos/glitch.wmv That is the exact thing that happens to me. This video file demonstrates the "Avatar East" glitch from mouselook, and has a timer to show how long it takes from when I stop moving, until that glitch happens. ALSO it shows the chat bar glitch, where the chat bar poofs from my screen. This video shows it never there, but I guarantee you it was there when I logged in!

Things like this happening?

What happens to me at least:

  • At random times avatar will turn when in 3rd person view.
  • in mouselook or holding down shift, avatar strafes right.
  • Camera just rotates around avatar when sitting (in camera controls, right arrow on left circle lights up when this happens as well)
  • Also happens when focused on another window and SL is in background
  • happens in ALL clients

>resets camera on avatar when happens, unable to move camera around
>unselects objects trying when to manipulate them, unable to build
> happens repeatedly and without warning
>Annoying as ALL GETOUT

#1 and #4 seem like part of it.

Interesting fact: I have come to notice the glitch as dwindling down to non existant. I have seen less, but I havent done any modification to the client. Work seems to have been done to the server code though, so might have been server side? Though if Jadem has glitches that relate, it could be glitches that seem to flow from client to client VIA server code, and doesnt affect all clients. Interesting little bug, and gets ANNOYING! I remember I just sat down all the time, but even then it would attempt to face avatars east, turning the whole object, then the object would turn back to the way it was before, overriding the east face. Most likely some miscommunication between the client and the server, thus confusing the client, which could change the camera position, and lock it until alt is hit and camera moved manually? Just a thought.

Done some testing, and it appears it has something to do with system hardware. I know this sounds weird, but when I disable my second sound card, the problems are gone... when I enable my second sound card, they come back. That is all I figured out right now. The two cards I have are a Sound Blaster Audigy (primary card) and a Realtek AC'97 (secondary)

Interesting. I also began suffering from this particular issue on every SL client, around two days ago, without updating anything really SL related. So, i thought i might give it my two cents as well.

Well, the only real change to my system lately is that i got a new Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, and this problem with SL started for me just after installing the webcam software. Maybe a little bit too specific timing for not being related anyway, hm? But what really got me pondering was Wolf mentioning about the issue being related to having a second audio device... Since the QuickCam actually works as an additional audio input device (it has a built-in mic).

Going to test the theory later on today myself, i'll try reporting what happened. Would be nice to hear from other users experiences on the issue as well.

Also, voted.

Well, after some fiddling with my hardware, i too can point my accusing finger towards having a second audio device installed and active on my system, in this case just having an input device, such as the mic on my webcam seems to be enough. After just simply disabling the mic from my device manager, the problem magically dissappears. So, definitely a general bug in SL, that needs fixing from LL's part, if it does this with other audio devices as well (couldn't test this comprehensively myself since i don't have other audio stuff handy right now, sorry).

Presently, i get around the problem by just keeping my webcam's mic disabled completely, but this is hardly an ideal permanent solution, because i'd like to use the cam's mic as well, occasionally, since the one on my headset obviously isn't very good at picking up anything else than my voice (by design, i'd imagine!).
