This happens for you each and every time? I've seen this on occasion, but is it consistent for you? (So, if I'm understanding you correctly, you can't teleport at all?)

kelly linden added a comment - 27/Apr/07 08:50 AM
Try logging into a different region:
From the login screen open preferences, at the top of the General tab check 'Show Start Location on Login Screen'
Close the preferences window.
Below your login name there will now be a box to enter your login location.
Try some of the following:
Ahern
Morris
Da Boom

Comment here with:

  • Are you able to log into those locations?
  • Can you TP from those locations?
  • Can you travel far?

Smiley Barry added a comment - 27/Apr/07 08:51 AM
I think it was a service issue. I had that too, so i used "smart teleports", using some system tweaking . (As in, using some programs to teleport by rapidly closing Second Life and opening a teleport link while AutoLogin is enabled, all in 2 seconds :O )

WorkingOnIt Linden added a comment - 04/May/07 10:04 AM
See SVC-179 – I was able to repro being disconnected upon TPing out of Wasp.

imogen saltair added a comment - 08/Jun/07 11:56 AM
I regularly crash shortly after teleporting or crossing a sim boundary line. I have been doing this in about 8 out of ten sim border crossings since about March or maybe earlier. I cant give you any stats for it because I dont know when its happened until it happens. I regularly have to tell people that 'ok tp me, but i will probably crash' . If this is a similar problem to the original reporter, i will be happy to get you any info you need next time it happens, if you tell me how and what to do to get it.

Thank you

Can believe more people havent voted on this, unless its under a different issue.

Torley Linden added a comment - 20/Jun/07 09:27 AM
We can't repro this problem. Perhaps it was a symptom of the packet loss issues we were experiencing that mysteriously fixed themselves awhile back. Feel free to reopen if you have a solid, specific repro.

@Imogen: If you can repro that (and it sounds like it happens a lot), please file a separate issue. Or there may already be one for that, try searching. Thanks.

Monalisa Robbiani added a comment - 10/Jul/07 02:18 AM
"Repro" must be a joke. I cannot teleport AT ALL at normal hours. If I can cross a region border without a logout it is pure luck. When I attempt teleporting or a region crossing I get logged out. Maybe at 4 AM local time one out of ten TPs work for me. About a month ago at least on teleport worked, the second one logged me out. To reach a destination now I have to use SLURLS! It is not a port issue because I can see the map correctly. When people offer me a TP the success rate is slightly higher.

Monalisa Robbiani added a comment - 10/Jul/07 02:33 AM
OK I am trying what you suggested. It is now 12 i clock noon my time, an hour with very low traffic, my router is brand new, I'm using a strong DSL connection and a new computer. My SL version is the newest optional one.

Ahern: Logged in. Attempting TP to the busy "Ises" Sim: Progress bar keeps me waiting, then logged out.

Loggin in again. Crossing region border: walking into the ground across an entire region, viewer crashes.

Logging on to Morris: Impossible, "region has begun logout process".

Trying again: Your account wont be accessible until.. (another 5 minutes).

Trying again: Viewer crashes on login.

Trying again: Logged into Morris. TP to Isis: Progress bar keeps me waiting, then logged out.

Trying again: Viewer crashes on login.

Trying again: Logged into Morris. Walking northbound into Ahern. Walking into the ground until coordinate Y 440, logged out.

I skip the same thing with Da Boom, it is just useless!

This is my everyday SL experience. I can only reach a place using SLURLS.

Monalisa Robbiani added a comment - 10/Jul/07 02:38 AM
I cannot teleport at all. I just reported my experience with Ahern and Morris.

Any attempt to teleport results in the client logging me out.

Problem appeared with last viewer update : 1.18.0.6 winxp

I've tried to loggin in different places and then to TP to places using search. Same issue every time.

Well I just can't go nowhere, have to relaunch the viewer at every atempt to TP.

Juniskorpi Oldbull added a comment - 22/Aug/07 02:53 AM
I Cannot teleport at all either. When trying the progress bar slowly goes forward and the text says "Contacting new region" and after a while Second Life crashes.

hi all!!!
I think i can put a little light of this problem...
I have the same thing i am always stuck in one place and couldn't teleporting anywhere as same as u.
I mad some checking with different things and found the follow things about this problam :
1. I cant fly anywhere
2. I cant telleport only from "search" , map, and landmarks. when someone is inviting me and give me a telleport everything works without any problem. who is frustrated as me try it, it helping a little. also you can fly "home", try to landmark "home" in a place you already been telleported for not stacking in a one place.
3. my bf is playing from the same computer and don't have any problems so it can't be in the computer it have to be about the specific sim.
hope you'll have a solution soon.
thanks poli.

For the past 24 hours, when trying to TP... 9 times out of 10, i get a black and white screen saying i have been logged out. In the last 2 hours, I have tried repeatedly to TP.... suceeded TWO times... all other attempts i was logged out of SL. I hope theres a fix for it soon, i'm about ready to throw my PC out the window!!!

Charlton Roffo added a comment - 14/Sep/07 10:43 AM
This happens to me sometimes i try to eleport and the teleport fails and I get disconected also when I unpack large quantities of items it can crash the whole region.

Petal Sands added a comment - 15/Sep/07 11:07 PM
When I teleport either from search or my landmarks, the connection starts, says connecting to region, you hear the whoosh sound, then it says you have been logged out of second life - Continue (to read IMs) or Quit.
To continue doesnt allow u to move so i have to quit. Then relog, when i relog i do get to the region i have requested to teleport.
********This happens on EVERY teleport EVERY day. - Teleport - logged out - re log - get to destination.
No exception*************** No one can Tp me successfully either.
please help as this is a really hard way to get around in SL and its been just too long now - 2 months.
For the 1st few months i was able to teleport freely.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled SL. i have emptied cache,i have followed all instructions on yr website - log in at different regions etc -(gone to Pooley, fly up to teleport, etc) i have gone to help island but helpers suggested i report bug, i have opened firewall ports on both PC and router (although it used to work without having to do this), but it didnt make any difference. My report is SVC-671.
PLEASE HELP ME. Thank you.

cj carnot added a comment - 17/Sep/07 03:04 PM
Add me to the list.

Frequently disconnected from SL when trying to teleport, getting left with the black and white image and message that I have been disconnected.

Alternatively, using cancel during an unsuccesful teleport leaves you at your original location but unable to move, though apparently logged in, as chat still works.

I'm also seeing more failed teleports that leave me at my original location... the destination is available as others are succeeding on getting there. Trying log directly in to SL at the location I want to go to in these situations, results in a message that the region is unavailable despite the fact that I know it's not.

The problem seems to be account not region specific.

All the correct ports are open, the firewall is off, and I never used to have this problem. My pc is well within specification.

I to am having this crashing of teleporting problem. As I read all these comments its hard to think that its my computer causeing these problems because how can we have the same problems and have different set ups in our computers. Something has to be amiss in the Second Life program that affects some of the ppl trying to play this game. The crashing for me has been going on for at least 3 months, if not longer. When we go out sailing and try and cross a sim crossing, I crash, when I zoom in, I crash or should I say get logged out. There has to be something that Second Life can do, as when I first started playing, apart from the lag every thing worked well. Cant they go back and investergate what is different and maybe include it some how. I dont pretend to be a computer programmer but darn there sure must be something different in the program now than there was a few updates ago. Come on Lindens, please put a priority on this, leave the voice alone for a little while and work on the problem that is upsetting so many of ur users. One last thing, some where in logging in, it shows how many ppl have actually logged in over the past 24 hours or what ever, now does this number take in account all the crashes that ppl are having, so how can that be a true reading?

Charlton Roffo added a comment - 21/Sep/07 12:26 PM
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3614/wowwy5.jpg this is a picture of the real problem the sims are closing connection with me why i do not know.

Reginald Vollmar added a comment - 21/Sep/07 05:29 PM
I'm having the same issue, and I've had it before. When trying to teleport to specific regions (for example, the newly created What), the progress bar stops at the "Contacting new region" section, and then I am logged out. This error is extremely debilitating, and I wish it had been solved before (I was told that it had been by several Lindens, and the error continued for several weeks before mysteriously solving itself).

Charlton Roffo added a comment - 23/Sep/07 10:49 AM
This issue must cause malformed packets which also cause my router to reboot this is unacceptable you need to put a packet filter on the game so it will preven the game from sending or receiving malformed packets.

vx shaw added a comment - 07/Oct/07 06:53 PM
I have the same issue with the client disconnecting while I attempt teleports and sim border crossings. the packet loss meter goes wild occasionally, but I don't think it's the main issue here.

My failure rate is in excess of 75%.

Also, with the teleport, about 10% of the time the progress meters never even come up - the prims on the current sim de-rez, and I stay right where I'm at.

Crossing a border will cause me to "lag" across the sim until the system finally decides that I've been disconnected.

Tisha Watkins added a comment - 08/Oct/07 09:38 PM
I have the same issue. I can't teleport to a new region. It always loggs me off. I use client 1.18.3.5. This issue really needs to be resolved.

Alina Zamani added a comment - 19/Oct/07 02:24 AM
This has been happening to me for the past 2 days.
I can not teleport ANYWHERE.
I tried logging in from different locations, but as soon as I try to teleport, I get logged out.
Is there a solution to this?
It really needs to be fixed, I'm really irritated with Second Life. It will keep me off of it.

Petal Sands added a comment - 22/Oct/07 04:23 PM
hi, just letting u know i figured out my teleporting crash problem, i listed a comment above, i found when i was connected through my router DI-524UP (even after opening up the appropriate ports for 2nd life) i had massive teleport problems for months, – but – when im connected through my D-link DSL-302G everything worked well (even without opening specific ports on it). so i feel for me, the problem was with the router, i have no idea why, maybe it just couldnt handle the traffic - who knows - but at least now i can enjoy SL much more without all the dramas. mayb this info could be of some help to others.

Vladi Blessed added a comment - 23/Oct/07 11:43 PM
Hi all.

I also had those problems when I attempt to teleport resulting in the client logging me out. If I fly too far, it logs me out as well.

I have DSL modem with DI-524 UP router attached to it. When I connected directly to the DSL modem, all my teleport troubles have just disappeared. If I connect through the DI-524UP router, I can't teleport again.

After spending a couple of hours trying the various settings of my router, I finally came up to the solution.

I think the problem is that when you try to teleport somewhere, the Second Life server tries to connect to the Second Life client, which is running on your computer, but the router is blocking it. All you have to do is to "instruct" the router to allow this connection.

With my DI-524UP I did the following. First, in the Preferences of Second Life, under Network section, there is an option Custom Port Connection. I enabled this and left the Port Number to the default value of 13000. Then under my router's settings, I allowed connections to port number 13000 and forwarded it to the local IP address of my computer.

Now I'm connected through my router and I don't have any teleport problems at all.

I hope this post was useful and I hope it will help many of you with the same problems to resolve them.

kelly linden added a comment - 29/Oct/07 10:50 AM
I believe the original bug for this was resolved, the recent comments indicate there may be some router issues effecting people and this is different from the original bug.

Please do not re-open this bug. If you are still having this issue please include the following info in a new bug. The first to make a new bug, please link it to this one with a comment to that effect so we can still collect them in a single issue.

What router are you using? Have you tried without the router (connecting directly to the modem), and if so did the problem persist?
What region were you in and what were you attempting to TP to? Super extra bonus points if you get the host name (simXXX.agni.lindenlab.com) from the Help -> About Second Life window.

Thanks!

This issue has been bulk changed to fix pending.

kelly linden added a comment - 26/Dec/07 11:52 AM
As per my previous comment. The original issue is fixed and deployed (and thus not 'pending').

Trina Varriale added a comment - 29/Dec/07 06:08 AM
I have the same problem, e.g., SL logs me out every time (100%) I teleport between regions. (I am not logged out if I TP within the same region.)
Narrowing it down:
1) This happens on all four of my PC's at home. It does NOT happen on my machine at work.
2) Our home internet provider is wireless, using the Motorola Canopy system. This is NOT satellite, and has none of the latency or other issues that satellite has. Still, there may be something a bit different about it compared to other service providers. Technical info at http://motorola.canopywireless.com/ .
Has anyone looked into this?

kelly linden added a comment - 29/Dec/07 08:12 AM
The original issue is fixed and has been for many months.

Trina: Your issue is almost assuredly related to your network configuration. I have never dealt with an ISP or network set up similar to what you describe so I'm not sure how to trouble shoot or diagnose the problem. However it is not the same issue that was originally reported and fixed. Please create a new issue. From my previous comment:

Please do not re-open this bug. If you are still having this issue please include the following info in a new bug. The first to make a new bug, please link it to this one with a comment to that effect so we can still collect them in a single issue.

What router are you using? Have you tried without the router (connecting directly to the modem), and if so did the problem persist?

Thanks!

For the past few days even after the resolved was posted for this subject. I am getting Crashed left and right during TPs, also just as Im coming out of TP and even with TP invite from another.

I wish there was a way to lock this issue closed.

PLEASE READ THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS BEFORE REOPENING.

Rob Linden added a comment - 14/Feb/08 03:34 PM
SVC-972 is a currently open issue which is similar to this one as originally reported, so please look there. As Kelly said, let's leave this issue closed. Chances are, the early comment trail describes an old issue, and contains comments that will just confuse a developer trying to solve what may be a problem currently.

hogan tunwarm added a comment - 23/Jul/08 04:51 AM
cannot tp... logout occurs 9 of 10 times........also flying too close to border of islands will force logout.....
